Choosing a Strop
Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone can help me in choosing one of these strops:
Bismarck Razor Strop
Hanging strop, Bismarck 2.5x23" for $49.95
Exclusive Shavings | Striglar | Strigel Dovo Cowhide Strop
Hanging Strop, Dovo Russian cowhide 2.5x15" leather and 2.5x23" in total for aprox. $89.17
Is there any big difference considering the price? |

I haven't tried either. but between the two I will probably take the first. I believe both will do the job done.

The first one looks fine. You don't really want to spend too much on your first strop because you will inevitably put some nicks in it while you are learning to stop. You should also check out Tony Miller's strops (the $30 beginner one is at http://shop.thewellshavedgentleman.c...&productId=101). He's on vacation for the next week, but I highly recommend his strops. I have one and love it to pieces and am even thinking about getting a new one since I've put more than a few slices in mine. |

This is what I bought for my "starter strop." Vintage*Blades*LLC*::*Razor... It gets the job done, of good quality, and there is even a smooth reverse side if you want to paste it. It's only $35 at Vintage Blades and it will make for an excellent strop to learn and improve your stopping technique.

Cannot rate Tony Miller's work highly enough! He is a true artisan and craftsman. Even his inexpensive strops are well crafted and can serve a lifetime. |
