Smile New Honers, do not despair!

I just picked up one of the razors that I haven't used in at least 3-5 months. I used to think I had it honed up really well... boy was I wrong! It pulled, missed hairs, and was a generally horrible shave overall compared to what I am used to nowadays.

It gave me a dramatic example of how much my honing skill has progressed over time, and I thought I would share it with you newer guys.

Don't give up! Keep honing those razors, and never settle for "it's sharp enough". Without challenge, no success!

Good luck you guys, keep it up!

Edit: spend more time on lower grit hones before you move up in the progression, trust me.

How do you know if it has not had any edge deteriation in the time since you last used it?

Thanks for sharing! We have all been there... or in some cases may still be there.

The razors I am talking about have been sitting in my razor box, only used 1-3 times since initially honed.

I try to be diplomatic and rotate through all of them, but my favorites always take precedence.

After I tried shaving and got crappy results, I re-honed em and test shaved...and got much better results.

Oh, I am still learning... I'm sure I will think the same thing about my current skill levels in a few years.
