Default LeGrelot 1/4 grind

Another new razor with hearty recommendations from me!

OK, so this is not new news: these razors are very nice!~

Blade is beefy. Verrrry beefy! Not quite as heavy as my 7/8 Friodur, but pretty close.

Check out the thickness from the toe end:

This razor fit a couple of criteria for things I wanted in a new razor: #1 a heavy grind, #2 a thumbnotch.

The heavy grind seems to give a more forgiving shave, as the edge doesn't seem to be a "grabby" and fussy as some thinner grind razors can be (I have somewhat limited experience, so take that with a grain of salt).

The thumbnotch itself is mirror smooth, but the top edge of the razor has jimps. When you hold this razor it feels quite secure (and heavy!). The thumbnotch is great for when you are actually shaving, but it does require you to adjust how you hold it for stropping. No big deal, but worth mentioning.

On the Rasurpur website it talks about how these are "nice" plastic scales. I thought when I read that "what a bunch of baloney!", however, I must say that there is something about these plastic scales that are nicer than most of the rest. I'm not sure what it is, but they really are nice, plain, get-the-job-done scales.

Time for another pic:

Mine was not a perfect specimen. There is some kind of ding/divit (fairly deep) in the toe of the razor (see attached pic), and the honing bevel on one side had some sory of inward curve to it in the middle of about 1/4"-1/2" long.

That being said, those are not show-stoppers, as this blade kicks some serious butt! Mine arrived nicely packaged and oiled up. The blade was not to my standards of being "shave ready", but some work on the lapping films and pasted hangers took care of that. Razor is capable of achieving a very keen edge.

1st shave was on two days growth, Sunday morning shave with Tabac superlather. Very smooth and enjoyable shave! Scored a 3-pass BBS, no sweat.

I'm a fan of roundpoints for their more forgiving natures. I find that the combo of roundpoint and 1/4 hollow grind make this a very comfortable shaver. Day two shave this morning was a similarly enjoyable 2-pass BBS shave.

I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship...

For $175 USD delivered (unless the dollar has tanked even further), you can't go wrong. This is a somewhat unique razor, as it is an opportunity to get a NOS 1/4 grind, as opposed to most razors out there that are currently full hollows.

Martin's service is excellent, shipping was prompt, and all emailed questioned were answered quickly and cheerfully.

One last shot, note the slight humpback tang *sigh*:

I was lucky enough to find a slightly use one of these, originally from Martin in Germany. It is indeed a great shaver. My only complaint about it is that the blade starts to stain even while I am still shaving! It seems the mirror finish on the upcoming B&B LE is a nice upgrade. For mine, I think I will pick up some Tuf-Glide the next chance I get.

Just ordered one of these from the english razor company. £52 ($104)
Will repost in once it arrives.
BTW the razor looks exactly like my Fontana REX razor, even the scales and pins are the same! Odd?

I hope you will not be disappointed but his is the razor you ordered from the Enlish razor company. It's a full hollow, excellent shaver. The 1/4 hollows are only sold by rasupur and the B&B LE.

Thanks for warning me. It's on the way anyway. I couldn't help myself, I love French stuff and I was going to hit the fire button on a French razor at some point, so for £50 ish it had to be done. Everyone has said these are probably better than a lot of TI's proper so I had to for the price.

Anyway, if anyone wants to upset me, post a picture of a French/oblique point Ivory scaled French razor - yep, thats my weekness

How's this! It's my favorite. An old forge 6/8's that actually is over 7/8's! A massive full hollow with snakewood scales and a worked back, it is a fantastic shaver.
