DOVO Shavette
I thought I'd add a review for us here at SRP since I don't see one for this little unit.
I bought the stainless steel version, with the red blade holder. The red holder accepts half a DE blade, the black is for the longer blades.
I found this tool to be light and agile; it's a very responsive tool and with a light touch, this razor does a fine job.
The new DOVO DE blade did a very nice job. No irritation and no trouble cutting through a 2 day old beard. I'm looking forward to trying my Derby's and Feather's in it as well.
The S-N pass under my jaw was surprisingly easy, no catching or pulling. No need for an ATG pass, the WTG and XTG passes yielded very smooth results. It's small size made it easy to get my hard to reach spots.
This razor is perfect for travel or camping or as an everyday razor as well.
There are lot's of folks who don't care for this little shaver, but I'm not one of them. I'm glad I bought it and will use it often.
Randy

I have never shaved with a stright razor in my life..... yet , i bought a DOVO SHAVETTE BOX SET and there is a very unclear description of what comes in it do both blade holders come with it ???, dose it come with the long and short blades or both . It has not arrived yet but i cannot wait to get my first shave with a straight razor. Are the blades universal or do you have to special order certian types for certain razors. if the blades are not included (even though they are to be included) what do you recomend that is the best BANG FOR THE BUCK?????
Sorry if the questions sound stupid but i know very little!!!

My Dovo Shavette came with only the red holder, for a regular double edge blade that you can get anywhere.
I ordered the black insert for a longer blade and also ordered the Dovo blades specifically for this holder. You can see them here

Both holders, the red and the black, fit very tight in the razor slot, even more, the black holder is much better in my opinion, when you open it you find 3 plastic dots that fit exactly in the blade, there's no way the blade can move at all. If you look at the blade picture you'll know what I'm talking about. (Even this picture shows 4 holes on each side, my blades and holder only have 3)
The shave is excellent, you just have to be carefull and use no pressure at all, or you'll get cuts.

Based on the same website, there is an option for a green blade holder for Fromm blades. It is also described as "most popular for shaving". Have you tried the Fromm blades? I have considered trying the Shavette as my entry into str8s, and I want to select the best combination for the best experience. If I like it, it will also become my travel shaver. Thank you.

When I got fascinated with straight razors, all I could find was Cerena, Solingen shavette with 10 long DE blades for 150 kn (27 $)... I bought it and shave with it for two months now... It gives me a good shave, but I always manage to nick myself...

When I read the review, I decided to take my shavette out of the draw. I put in a fresh blade this morning and did my usual 3 pass shave. With no exceptional effort, I had BBS shave in mimimal time. Of course, the blade feel and comfort is not the same as a well honed straight. It should also be said that the shavette calls for the lightest hand as it will draw pinpricks at the slighest provocation. Fortunately, such nicks seal with cold water and after shave. From a utilitarian stanlpoint, the shavette is a good acquisition for travelling or following up a razor that did not measure up.

Nicely put.
My only addition would be that I feel it tends to exfoliate a little to much. What I mean is the first day I use it I'm ok the second I get rezor burn and the thirs day I am very prone to weepers. If I skip a day in between to allow the skin to heal or use another razor (straight or DE) I get good shaves out of the shavette but daily use seems to be to much.

Now that you mention it, my face does feel more taut than usual at mid-morning. That's even after applying post shave moisturizer after the Pinauds.

I have recently started into straight razor shaving and thought, based on some reading, the shavette was a good starting point. I began with the short blades and progressed to the long blades in the black holder. I found the long blades easier and more comfortable to use. I've heard that the shavette is less forgiving in Lynn Abrams video and from reading a bit here. Glad to hear it only gets better! I've had a few nicks and cuts but nothing to deter me just yet. I'm still looking for info on what my first straight will be. I've done a bunch of reading and read a bunch of reviews. Soon I'll just have to take the plunge! For what it's worth I liked the shavette, it was cheap and pretty quick to learn with. As I said I found the long blades easier to use and more comfortable. If you buy from classic shaving REMEMBER you have to order the black holder for the long blades, they don't come with them!!! (It does say that on the site I just hurried and missed that and had to pay for shipping twice).
