Our own Butch Harner made this cute little test razor for me a while back, and I finally got around to shaving with it today.
Just looking at this razor, I knew it wasn't going to feel the same way commercially-made razors feel. The blade geometry is different, more knife-like, and even after a professional honing, it still felt... different.
Different isn't necessarily bad, mind you. The razor shaves well, and it can certainly earn a place in my regular rotation. It's lightweight and handles curves well, but it can be a little difficult to hold. I'd like to see the tang modified to help with that... ridges or crosshatching would be great. The balance is a little off, but I think making the tang a quarter-inch longer would solve that. The scales are nice, if a little tight on the tail as it swings through. I love how lightweight they are, and the way the "grain" shows off their curves.
Overall, I'd give this razor 3 out of 5 stars. For a test model, it's off to a great start, but it could use some tweaks. I have high hopes for its successors.
