Jagger LeGrelot
For Grelot fans, there is a great opportunity over at Edwin Jagger's site. I picked up a NOS 6/8 full hollow blade with imitation ivory scales for less than $100 delivered. The blade front is highly polished with a Jagger imprint. As with all Grelots it takes a keen edge and yields a close shave.

I got one, too, but I haven't honed and shaved with mine yet. I agree it's a good value for a hefty, French 6/8; with shipping, my credit card was charged $90. Except for the Edwin Jagger logo, it is the same as the "3/4 to Full Hollow Grind" razor Martin is selling for 115 Euros here.

How is the fit and finish? Unless I'm mistaken, these were put together by TI.

My razor is well put together. The blade is centered, the pins are tight, the scales are well fitted and matched perfectly, and the blade finish is uniform. Therer are upper and lower file jimps. As I mentioned, it came with a TI leather pouch marked Jagger.

I think this is a pretty good deal, considering it would cost about 50% more other sellers, and with current TI pricing. Throw in a refill puck of Harris soap for $13.

I'm not getting this...? The site says the razor is $98.80 BEFORE shipping and shipping looks like it'll be at least $6 to the US. How did you only get charged $90 shipped?

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!

It is likely due to the fluctuating exchange rate. The website indicates that exchange rates are updated regularly to reflect daily currency rates. I would think the price in British Pounds did not change.
Can someone post a photo of the razor open, so we can see the blade?

The price on the website includes EU value added tax (VAT). If the razor is shipped to the US, the VAT is subtracted during the ordering process. I think the VAT for this razor is about $14. If you complete the ordering process, you will see the final charges before your credit card is charged. The order I placed yesterday came to $93.59 shipped. Shipping is about $9.

Ok, so I have been itchy lately for a LeGrelot... so I pulled the trigger last night.
The price converted out to be slightly less than $90 for me, including shipping to the US.
Exchange rate .. ?
Looking forward to a new blade.
Thanks for posting the links.

Excellent. I would hope EJ would hold TI to a higher standard. Looks like a good deal on a fine razor. I have two Le Grelot quarter hollows that are counted among my favorites. I've an older 6/8ths Super Gnome that has no QC problems (other than the usual half inch too long scales), but the two Le Grelot razors show the typical TI lack of attention.

Don't forget you don't pay the 115 Euro if you are in the US. No VAT or something. It's the 94 Euro price I think form Martin.

Here's a picture of what they look like in white and in black. As mentioned below VAT is removed when you purchase so it lowere the the price. I also picked up a nice super badger brush and some soap while I was at it as the shipping was reasonable.

Ditto all of this.

Yes, when it's shipped outside the EU, VAT is subtracted. Since VAT exceeds the 5 pound shipping charge, the shipped price is less than 50 pounds.

The price and shipping costs are definitely lower than Martin's, on the one hand. You have to weigh that, however, with the fact that this is a TI, and the chance that you may get a warped blade. Martin prehones his razors, and I think, inspects the blades he sells. Also, if you do get a bum razor, it may be easier to deal with him. I have no personal experience with the other English shop, or their return policy. In the end, the price is good, as long as you are willing to take the gamble.

I recieved my razor this morning.
How's that for 5 pounds sterling for shipping.
For conversation's sake ...
The VAT tax is 17.5%.
So, if someone was in the US trying to figure out just how much this razor would cost ...
Take the original price, subtract 17.5% from it since the VAT doesnt apply to US citizens ... and add 5 pounds for shipping.
My total was 49.26 pounds.

I ordered two on the 18th and they arrived this morning. Truly unbelievable service! Included was a small shave cream sample.
They appear quite lovely at first glance.
