Default Mastro Livi 6/8 roundpoint w/ Pau Violeto scales

Last week I received a Mastro Livi 6/8 Roundpoint "new grind" with Pau Violeto scales from Straight Razor Designs.

The razor came in a beautiful presentation box which appears to be made of Rosewood. Included with the razor was a small hex wrench to adjust the tension of the single pin. The scales crafted of Pau Violeto are finished in a very subtle satin which IMO is quite understated given the quality of craftsmanship and the character of the wood. The blade is finished exceptionally well, with hand file work on the spine. Overall fit and finish is a 9/10. The razor was shave ready.

My initial shave was immediately after I received the razor-after 15 passes on linen and 35 on leather the shave, WTG, was very good.
Today, I wanted to really test the razor with a 30 hour growth. Prior to shaving I touched up the edge with CrOx on a balsa paddle strop,15 passes on linen and 50 on my Tony Miller hanging strop. I generally don't put alot of importance to the HHT-but this razor EASILY passed it on the entire length of the edge.

After my usual prep-Well, lets say the stars were in line, the shave God's were smiling-because I got the elusive "PERFECT SHAVE". An absolute velvet squeegy, not a single nick,BBS with ONE WTG pass. NO razor burn at all. I can't remember the last time I got a perfect shave. 10/10. The razor has perfect balance. The blade is hefty for its size and the scales are feather light.

At $310, this razor is a good value. Mastro Livi shows his talent. There is almost a "rough" old world type style that this razor exhibits. Not something you wouldn't want to shave with because it looks like a presentation piece. HIGHLY recommended. The last picture is was taken by Straight Razor Designs.

It is suspected the razor is haunted.

Have you tried honing it yet?

I recently got one unhoned and had problems honing it. As the shoulder is too thick the heel is very hard to hone. The other problem I had with mine is that you have to be very careful closing the razor as the toe almost rubs against the front scale.

Actually, I did touch it up with CrOx and it responded well. I've never owned a Razor I couldn't hone. I have a Wacker INOX that is tricky-but if you can't get a good shaving edge-your simply not honing properly. The blade is ground PERFECTLY, IMO-exceptional QC.

As far as the scales go, I ALWAYS guide the blade closed on any RAZOR. The blade is rigid and the scales are flexible-so ANY razor can have issues if it is closed without due care. I'm actually VERY impressed with the craftsmanship. The scales are ONE piece, with the blade relief perfectly centered, the pin drilled correctly and the tension adjustable. I honestly can't find fault with this razor.

I have honed about 50 razors now and never had the problem I mentioned. The majority are razors with a shoulder. I wish I had as much with mine.

Wow! I just felt the "need" for a new razor! What a beauty.

Yes I've honed mine with no problem. I've had other razors I've had far more problems honing like my TI damascus and TI Silverwing.
