I seem to remember seeing Brando having a straight shave in 'On The Waterfront' (I think!) - watched a film the other night, 'Chinatown' with Jack Nicholson. There's a scene where he and another guy (who he later has a row with) are in a barbershop having a straight shave. Looked quite accurate - the lather was a bit too 'meringue' but the strops were hung from the chair backs (I've seen that many times) and the blade angles looked pretty correct too.

In the Croatian TV series "Velo misto" every episode has min. 5-10 minute scene in the old style barbershop, where mens getting in to shave, chat, or just collaborate against Nazi's :-)
It's very funny, but sadly it can't be translated - you must know that language to understand it.

Saw Breaker Morant last night. Good movie. Also has a scene where one of the men is having a straight shave.

The Living Daylights starring Timothy Dalton as James Bond surprised me tonight when I watched it and saw that at 1:29:29 one of Bonds allies is being given a straight razor shave. Funny. I hadnt noticed it before and its right there in your face!

And lets face it- in both cases, practice is half the fun

It's so frustrating to see someone lathered up, razor in hand, and then... they get interrupted and don't actually shave. *sigh*

I seem to remember a 1st season episode of MASH where everything in the 4077 grinds to a halt over a ceasefire, and Col. Henry Blake prepares to go home by shaving with a straight.

Saw V. There is a scene where jigsaw is handling a straight and teaching someone that they should have used tempered steel for a job, as it would have been more durable. Don't know what brand it was but IIRC, it was a round point.

I hope that little bit of info isn't too much of a spoiler.

In Heaven Knows Mr. Alllison, Robert Mitchum shaves with a straight razor while he and Debroah Kerr are hiding out from the Japanese on a remote pacific island in WWII.

A straight razor is used as a weapon by Leatherface's brother in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The movie October Sky has a very short barber clip in the beginning.

Amon Goethe (deathcamp commendant) and Oskar Schindler shaves in the movie Schindlers List.

If I remember correctly the blade angles was kind of off...

Dont have time to go through all 7 pages, but there is a straight in an episode of Rescue Me and the Cheifs wife trys to commit sucide with it.

Also there is a Dali film where a lady gets her eye cut out with one.

If you look on the top navigation you can see "Search this thread". Type in your film there to see if it's been posted already.

Just watched a modern-day western made for the hallmark channel called "Mail Order Bride".It has a straight razor scene that's so badly done the guy holds the razor at about 60 degrees and drags it up his face spine leading.

Just caught the original Planet of the Apes.

Charles Heston gives himself a shave at the end using a knife.

I also saw Barry Lyndon (which has previously been cited on the thread) who uses a straight towards the end of the movie as well. My wife gave me a knowing look when she saw the straight...

The french films about Marcel Pagnol's childhood, La Gloire mon Père (you don't really see the shave only the lathering..but we all know what goes on there) and the sequell Le Château de ma Mère (where we actually see the shave).

I bet that if I start thinking about this, I can come up with a few movies. For instance, in Key Largo, Edward G. Robinson gets a shave with a straight as he talk about his racket.

Al raz.
