Default My not-so-new new toy!

Just thought you might like a view of my latest addition to the rotation. It A Frederick Fenney 'Tally-Ho!' blade, C. 1840, with buffalo horn custom scales. I particularly liked the inclusion in the front scale. I got the blade in a job lot - no scales and covered in filth and grease. It now shaves like a dream. Blade specs are -

8/8 at widest point, narrowing slightly to about 15/16. Full wedge, spine is 5/16" thick and the whole thing weighs 98 grams/3.5 oz. The blade is fully swept and originally had the words 'Adamantine Steel' on the front but this was too far gone to save. Scales are custom made, brass pins and with a lignum vitae wedge spacer. For anyone who wants to see more of it it can be found here

I love the blade and the scales are perfectly proportioned. I have not even done my first restoration but from my perspective, I would have tried to leave the spacer pin evenly space between the top, bottom, and the end of the scales. Just an opinion of someone who has not actually not done this yet... for whatever it is worth.
Regardless of my personal preferences, beautiful work!

Thanks for the feedback -I have to ask - what 'spacer pin'? If you mean the base pin, try to visualise it without the cut-off - I think it works well from that perspective. The scales are nearly1" wide so visual balance is a bit hard to see - maybe I shoud have put a 'standard'5/8 there for comparison. Glad you like it though, because I do!

That is an amazing looking blade; I'm a sucker for the big ones. Talk about a humpback!

Very nice curves on the blade and the scales perfectly complement them!

Wow! I have the exact same blade: F. Fenney Taley Ho Adamantine 15/16. Cool, huh?

Josh Earl did a regrind on mine, and he's dropping it in the mail today. I should receive it soon. Next, I'm sending it to Gary (Traveller) for a new set of scales. It's an SRP team project! =)

I hope mine turns out at least half as beautiful as yours! Congratulations!
