Default Razor Manufacture Date

Hey all,

I realize that it is annoying to ask "when was my razor made???" Unfortunately, I can't figure out when mine was made. I am looking at the website that lists manufacturers and am unable to even find the correct one. I have an ERN Crown & Sword 4720, and it says "Razor Works, Wald - Germany." Can anyone help me out, or at least point me in the right direction for figuring it out? Much appreciated.

Ben

I'm sure someone more experienced will correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like there isn't a good way to date straight razors with precision like you can with DE razors. You can look up manufacturers to see when they existed or sometimes find out when product lines were produced but I haven't seen anything too accurate for run of the mill vintage straights. There are the pre country listings on the tang and post country that help between old and really old but most seem impossible to date better than a 20-40 year period often. Again, that's just from the reading I've been doing and more experienced posters may have better info.

Thanks, that helps a great deal!

It is still frustrating that I can't find an exact date... But its no big deal. Thanks for the info.

Well, you can't get an exact date but you have it narrowed down to between 1873 and 2008. That's a start anyway!

Seriously, in response to your initial post, I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help in determining the age of your razor. If you want to know something, you might as well take advantage of the collective knowledge of this forum. My point is, I see nothing annoying with such a question.
