Default Unusual covered tang

This Rodgers & Sons wedge came today. The seller claims the scales and tang are genuine ivory...they look legit to me, but I haven't tried the hot pin test yet. I've never seen a tang like this before though...as you can see in the second pic below, the metal tang doesn't extend all the way through the tail, it ends just before the pivot pin.

Has anyone seen one of these before? Any info is appreciated

Like this? Tang is ivory. The end isn't solid ivory though, that's nice!

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!

It seems quite strange that the pivot isn't in metal; that just seems like a bad idea to me. Are you sure it's not just that the ivory completely covers the metal at the tail?

I was thinking the same thing. That the ivory (if it's ivory) is a sleeve around the metal tang. I wonder what the underside of the tang looks like.

Thats entirely possible, but as far as I can tell impossible to discern without popping the pins.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

I've seen some antique bokers like that, and I have an old American Perfect Wizard with a tang like that, although mine is bakelite or something, and partially broken off
