Does anyone have a pic of the blade on a Le Grelot #52 6/8? I may be able to purchase one NOS, but I can't get pictures of it opened. I'm wondering if it has jimps, a thumb notch in the tang, and what type of grind it has (other than hollow.) Thanks, Mike.

Rasurpur has a pictures and a description here. Scroll down until you get to "Historical 6/8 Le Grelot - 3/4 to Full Hollow Grind" and click the picture with the black plastic scales.

Incidentally, are you looking at these razors, by any chance? They seem to be a good buy and I've been considering ordering one myself. I asked for information on them and got the following reply:

"The Edwin Jagger logo is stamped on one side of the blade and on the other the words ‘Fortitudo cum Qualitate’ as on the other Edwin Jagger straight razors. On the tang is stamped – 52 6/8 Le Grelot, Thiers France with a small logo. These were made by Thiers Issard."

Yup. That's it. I was hoping for something more akin to the quarter hollow model as far as the tang goes.

I had a vintage one of those for a while. It is not really a "hollow" grind, as the rasurpur site also points out. It is like 3/4 hollow or something. Not as beefy as the 1/4 grind, but certainly not hollow or full holllow.

It is a great shaver and takes an excellent edge. And that price is pretty good too.

But, it does not have the thumbnotch (I love thumbnotches!) like the 1/4 grind.

Edit: Whoops, didn't see the grind at first. Hollows don' work so well for me. Oh well.

I have just bought one of those myself .It looks like a hollow ground blade but it is very stiff& it took a while on the hones to get an edge I was happy with. The steel must be very hard ,But once tuned in its proving to be an excellent razor that is giving me very smooth & long lasting shaves. It hase gone into my more modest rotation.All in All its great value for money .I wont buy another as I am trying to stop getting pairs of every razor I like.Hope this helps.Paul
