Welcome
Well, I just thought I would welcome all of you to our newest forum here. My name is Nelson also known as thebigspendur and I will be moderator to this new forum.
This is the place to write reviews and comment on reviews of anything related to straight shaving from razors to brushes to soaps and hones and all the other stuff we all use.
Just about the only guideline is if you are in some way connected to a manufacturer or retailer of a product please don't do a review of that product. Not that we are calling your review into question but there might be a question as to your impartiallity. Hopefully instead of searching all over the site to find reviews of products it will now be easier to find.

Subsequent investigation revealed the razor belonged to Toshiro Kawasaki a WWll Kamakazee pilot who was killed when his plane slammed into the USS Yorktown. His last act was to shave with that razor. It is suspected the razor is haunted.

Nelson,
Great forum idea.
Maybe a few guidelines for vendors in responding to comments on reviewed products may be in order. I wanted to comment on my strop review but not sure where the line is yet (if it's been crossed please remove my reply).
It's probably good that vendors can answer comments and questions raised during a review but it should not turn into a debate of good or bad between vendor and reviewer.
There are plenty of items I love to see reviewed and I know i'd also appreciate hearing from the maker/supplier as to why things are the way they are, what they may wish to change, etc.... Most suppliers here are very responsive to customer comments so it would provide a chance for any of us to improve our products.
Thanks,.
Tony

Good point Tony.
The whole idea here is to have users of a product be able to express their views about that product and hopefully it won't be used to insult any products or to give someone a chance to axegrind against any vendor or manufacturer. If someone dislikes a product it would be expected that person will be very specific as to why they dislike a product not just say this product su..ks and leave it at that. If someone does a review like that in all probability I will remove it.
Certainly everyone is invited to comment on the specific reviews or comments about products. Of course a vender will always like his product, we already know that and I don't want this to become an arena for people to go back and forth with a negative review and a vendor to counter that. No cat fights tolerated.
Having said that I also realize that a vender is entitled to defend his or her products from disparaging remarks so lets settle this for now by saying that if a negative remark is posted about a product, in that case a vender can counter that review. Of course if a negative review is posted members here can always comment about products and I would think that if a negative review is unjustified many others will counter with their own comments about a product making a venders comments unnecessary.
Rather than set alot of rules I would rather let this thing just take off by itself and see where it goes and adjust if it becomes necessary. How does that sound?

Nelson,
Sounds fine to me. I was seeking a little guidance on whether my resonse to Josh's post was allowed in explaining a few details he commented on. In this case I think the vendors reply (mine) was more product negative than the reviewers <g>.
I was thinking not so much countering a reviewers comments but more explaining why certian criteria were chosen in the product, ie...maybe there are design limitations, cost limitations, etc.... not so much "I think it's good and you thought it was bad", but more of a "point well taken, but we chose to do "X" because of "Y". In handled in a gentlemanly manner it could be a place to help vendors with product development and improvement.
Thanks,
Tony

I also just wanted to add here this bit of legalize which these days is probably mandatory. All opinions expressed here are those of the individual members. The owners, operators, administrators, moderators or anyone having anything to do with the running of this site bear no responsibility for these opinions. None of the opinions have been solicited, endorsed, cohersed by anyone else. So anotherwords if your a vender and someone writes a unfavorable review of your product you have no legal recourse against this site or anyone involved in the administration of this site. Take it up with the individual who wrote it.
