Do we have an inform mod button?
I found a repulsive post put up here by a troll and wondered how to best inform the moderators of its existence so they could "take out the trash" as it were.
I know some forums have a button that sends a post and comments to the appropriate Mod included with each post.
Do we have any feature like that here?
I PM'd a couple of you guys so you could take care of it but was just wondering about this type of thing.

Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

As you look at the post you will see in the upper right hand corner a yellowish orange upside down triangle. Those are for reporting specific posts!!

Kind of a testament that in this long I have only looked for that button once. and hopefully never again.

It is actually quite nice how little this is required. While I think we've gotten of track on b/s/t occassionally this forums members are unusually both polite and self-restrained.
It is pleasant not to require forum nazis

The offending post has been removed, and the user has been banned.
The admins do a great job keeping things updated and secure. Every once in a while a spammer does make it through though.
The best thing to do it the "report post" icon. This generates an e-mail to all of the moderators, and I believe the admins. This helps us take care of the problem quickly.

PM Spam
It's really ironic, as I was reading this I got a PM with an Einstein quote about Buddhism, and a link to a rather crude website on Meditation and Rebirth. Not at all offensive, but the person joined today, had no posts, and appropriate or not I don't need the spam. Perhaps the report icon could be adapted to PM's as well? This is the first one I've ever gotten, on any forum actually. I fwd'd it to a few of the mod's, so hopefully it was a one-time thing...Was this a site-wide spam or am I the lucky winner for today?

"Patricia" has been banned as a member. The spammer got about 15 PMs out before I stopped it. Those of you who got them should just delete them. Sorry for your inconvenience, but there's no way to 100% stop spammers.

I've always wished that there was no truly anonymous proxy feature on the internet... that way perps could be traced by the ISPs or some overseer entity. But that's not likely going to happen with the strong feelings about privacy and rights of speech that many of us endorse in the internet realm. So we've got to pay the price for the freedoms.
In thinking back, I believe the same name (Patricia) was used the last time. Probably a software spambot of sorts, although a human has to be involved to get through the filters we have in place, at least to register, and get started. Anyway, when the server crashed and the host restored back to 10/31 it erased "her" membership and ban. Fortunately, we have a throttle in place on PMs, emails, etc that prevents a user from generating them very fast (there's a required delay between successive submits). So, while it's annoying to the few that get them, we don't have the whole site inundated in a few seconds.
