Default Photos in the classifieds

I don't know if it is possible but I am reasonably sure all will agree that the photos in the classifieds leave something to be desired. They are too small in "supersize" to get an accurate view of the item. I don't think it is ideal for either the sellers or the buyers. Even a link to a site like photo bucket would suffice but if there is a way to improve it I hope that whoever is responsible for administering the classifieds will be able and willing to improve it.

The supersize size was selected for two reasons - speed and storage. The speed portion has to do with the way the thumbnails are auto generated for each ad image.

You could provide a link to another site with larger pictures in the description area. I'll be checking later today to see if you can do a bit more in that field as well.

Be patient with us. We know that there is more work to do with The Classifieds - we *ALL* want it to be better. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

So your saying that when you click on the supersize link, and get the full image it's still to small? What size do you think would be proper?

Right now we're at 700px wide (If memory serves correctly).

Thanks
David

On my computer at home & at work the 'supersize' pic is 250 x 187. The photos that the selller in this post included are a good example of what I think would be ideal.

Those pics are inline in the description and are hosted on photobucket, so you do have that route as an option. The supersize pics don't expand to 700pixels - when someone uploads a picture for an ad, it is downsized to a max 700pixels wide and then a thumbnail of that is generated for the ad. If someone uploads a picture smaller than 700pixels wide, then the supersize ad is simply that size.

Even the most primitive of browsers support automatic resizing of images wider than the user's screen. Why not bump up the max size for the supersize pics to something really useful like 1200 (minimum)? In my very humble opinion, that would be immensely useful.

From what I understand - the max image size is set to deal with the processing needed to generate the thumbnails and then handling the supersize clicks. It was a compromise on "how big can we go without significant issues".

If you feel that the supersize is not large enough for a prospective buyer, then you should definitely use the inline image capability by offsite hosting with photobucket, imageshack, etc.
