Finally beat the Slant twice!!
I been doing str8 for several months. Finally, with my wife as the absolute unequivocal judge I beat my gold slant with my str8. The master blades are a Revisor and a Dubl Duck Goldedge. The important lesson, and there are two.... is 1. practice makes perfect and 2. The wife is the absolute unequivocal judge.
Ciao..

Congrats! It's a great feeling. I remember thinking that there was no possible way to get a closer shave than a Slant/Feather combination. Not only am I getting closer shaves, but less irritation too. Are you finding the same?

Yep. It takes a little prep and little patience and a good judge. My experience is that the slant is the gold standard with which to compare a great str8 shave.
Not to mention the satisfaction of continuing the Art of Shaving.

Great job! For me the straights are MUCH more comfortable than DE shaving (slants included) fewer missed hairs and no irritation.
Congrats -

The slantbar is an amazing shaver.
It's pretty much as close as you can get, not sure how you can beat it.
I've gotten AS close a shave with a straight, I'd say, the thing is the straight razor doesn't leave me with the occasional bloodspots a Slantbar with a Feather blade does.
Machine sharpened blades are nasty suckers.

It absolutely is an amazing shaver and I was convinced that i couldn't get closer. Now... I'm not sure that a straight gets "closer", but I find that I get less irritation and missed spots. Most importantly, I find that I stay smoother longer and when i do stubble up, it's not as prickly as with the Slant/Feather.

Yeah I noticed that. My straight shaves stay smooth longer.
Anyway I prefer Derby, because feathers may be too sharp.
My Dubl Duck and Wapi are currently the only blades I can get sharp enough to match the slantbar shave, but it's not just about sharpness.
Nothing beats the feeling a straight gives after a shave
