Wednesday Morning
Putting this one in a whole new realm, I had tried out the Craftsman without honing, just to see what would happen, not a bad shave really...
After taking the time to hone this razor, we moved to a whole other realm of sharpness... There are very few razors that I have used the shave like this and I have lucked out and used 2 this week....
Pure Vanilla Uberlather:
Kiss My Face Vanilla Earth Shave cream
Classic Vanilla Shave soap
Pure Glycerin
Razor: Craftsman 6/8 Spike Point
Coffee Time: Italian Roast Pressed
Aftershave: Master Bay Rum

Have a Great Day!!!! GREAT SHAVE FOR MY #500 POST

My first post in SOTD, and mostly because this was my best and most relaxing shave yet!
Razor: Geneva 5/8 Hollow Ground
Brush: CVS Boar's Hair
Soap: Cavendish Black from TGQ
Aftershave: Clubman Pinaud
It only took me 1 WTG pass, and 1 "scything" pass, and I was done!
Oh, and sorry for the crappy picture. My wife's digital was hidden away in a box after moving, so I had to use my Mac. Have a great day!

don't banninate me, just read!
Philadelph gratefully *gave* me a DE razor at the MA Get Togetha, and I shaved with it last night... my father taught me to shave with a DE, it has nostalgia value for me! Test to see if a DE, with it's smaller blade, can give a closer shave under the jowls/on the neck... the angles and relative size of straight razor/neck radii has made it impossible for me to get BBS in that area.
hot towel (HT) -> Gillette Tech (?) with Schick DE blade (early 90s vintage)
Edge Advance Therapy Gel ($2/can Walmart discontinued shelf! got it for my wife... it's mediocre, but passable and quick)
1x WTG (very little feedback, which is good and bad... cut my top lip... grrrr!) -> HT
1x XTG (hmm... feels much nicer when I use my straights for this pass) -> HT
1x ATG (OK, my neck still isn't BBS)
cleanup pass with blade buffing to get neck smoother (closer, but not quite BBS)
CWR -> alum block (irritation almost all over, but low level)-> Superior 70 Bay Rum
Conclusion: DE vs straight is like driving a manual transmission Saturn wagon vs a Porsche 911 GT3. Will use DE again if I have to shave quickly, or want to get under neck smoother... but I much prefer my straights, will continue practicing improving neck results Edge gel mediocre no matter how high fallutin' it is.

Glad to hear you used it! One thing that might help overall is to use good shaving soap. I use Colleen's now and it worked wonders in my shave quality. I doubt you can ever use canned gel and be irritation free.

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!
