Thumbs up SOTD: May 18, 2008

Well, I received my Dovo "Best Class" Carbon Steel 7/8", French Point razor from Vintage Razors on Friday. After seeing another post where one of the members had done no final honing but just stropped up this beauty, I decided to give it a try. First, I must say that the fit and finish on this razor is outstanding. The pivot pin has the perfect amount of tension. The blade has a beautiful finish and closes perfectly in the center of the scales. Twenty passes on the canvas were followed by 60 passes on the leather. On to the shave...
I had not showered so I gave my face an olive oil cleansing to assist in softening the beard and opening the pores. Five hot towels later, I was ready to shave. I mixed up Momma Bear's Awakenings lather. I did my first lather and put another hot towel on just because I could...
Now for the shave: I was a little leary since I had just stropped up a razor coming directly from the vendor but I had a trusty standby just in case it didn't work out. Not to worry! The blade cut through my beard like butter. One pass... two passes.... three passes... and then some cleanup... What a sweet razor! BBS and feeling great.
Hot towel to clean off the left over soap... cold cloth to close the pores... and then some witchazel. Last but not least was the application of a wonderful Castle and Forbes cedar and sandlewood ASB. Love the fact that this stuff has no alcohol and is made from essential oils.
All in all, it was a fantastic shave with the latest addition to my razor collection. Great way to start a Sunday morning... or any morning for that matter.
