gssixgun uberlather.....
I tried this today...all i can say is that it was the best shave ever, i had absolutely no irritation...super super comfortable.
I followed the steps that gssixgun has posted in several threads.
I loaded the brush with soap(cake) then in a warm bowl i added 4 drops of glycerin and a pea size(maybe little more) of shaving cream...and went to town lathering this thing.
Right away i noticed a different lather...it was thicker, shinnier and had a viscosity to it that i think was the responsable of this great shave...it felt like a mix of skinfood and lather all at once..wich if you tink of it ... is what it is...
Now...i bought this bottle of glycerin at whole foods for $4, i coudnt help but notice that they also sell almond oil...castor oil...avocado oil....anybody experimented with anything else besides glycerin?
Anyway...thanks gssixgun!!!!! great great discovery and i nominate you to the srp discovery awards for best invention of the year!!!!!

Slight Correction Needed
I appreciate the kudos but honestly I can't take credit where credit is not due.... I learned about Superlather and Uberlather over at B&B the only thing I can take credit for is designating between the two.... A Superlather being no Glycerin in the mix I have tried a couple of the essential oils in the lather so far just Lavender and Dragons blood but the results where not as good as the Glycerin....I bet the olive oil and the avocado oil might be interresting...

Sakes alive does glycerin dry out and even burn my face if I put too many drops in the lather. Has anyone else had this problem? I know it's hygroscopic and maybe it just kicked the drying action into overdrive, but the first time I tried adding glycerin to my lather I swear I had to keep dousing my cheeks with water because my cheeks felt like my eyes would if I got some sort of chemical in them.

I don't know about the burning part, but I have found it seems to make the lather dry faster, and my skin. I tried it a few times with soaps that contained little to no glycerin at all.
I fail to see what adding glycerin does, especially adding it to a glycerin soap, there is a reason why glycerin soaps only have so much in them.

Sorry guys, now that I think of it, it was probably putting glycerin in a bottle of alcohol based witch hazel to use as an after shave that was the culprit. I thought it would add additional moisturizing qualities and instead it was like splashing gasoline on my face. I was also adding glycerin to lather at that time, so I really should try just the glycerin and lather thing and see if that works for me.

I bought a small bottle of glycerin and tried it today for the first time, although my uberlather mix hasn't one of the 3 ingridients - soap - I don't have one at this time.
So I put some cream on the bowl and added some drops of glycerin and mixed it up. The result is slightly different than adding just warm water to the cream - it's thicker and slimier. I smeared it on the stubble and here we go!
The cream might have lasted longer this way, I guess, because of the gliceryn effect. Overall it was worth the try and from now on I'll add some drops in my cream.
Thanks Glen.
By the way, am I the only one who does this uberlather variation - cream only?

Since I don't have any glycerin to add I tried just making the superlather. Used some of the QED SRP Sandalwood/Vetiver soap and a tiny bit of TOBS Sandalwood cream ... came out great would put it right up there with the proraso, not sure that it needs any glycerin added using the QED.
Was still lathering like I had just made it on my third pass. I did, however, dip the tips of the brush in some hot water and lather on my face to get it back to that state.
Pic is of lather before first pass.

I picked up some cremes , soap and bigelow bay rum a/s balm on B&B. This morning I decided to try the superlather today, using williams mug soap and proraso...couldn't believe how thick the lather was. Absolutely loved it. Only bad thing is it didn't smell like cavendish black, but it will make a good changeup from time to time.

Will have to see if my Sis can pick some up for me. She works for a Naturapathic Dr, and they get a lot of herbs and things in for healing and what not.

Do you guys really think this works as a combination of ingredients or do you think (as I suspect from my trials) that it merely a product of using more soap/cream than normal.
I started an exp here - SOTD - 21/4/08
Haven't written up the final phase but it pretty much just points to the KOS oil making the shave better.
I really hope Mamabear or Colleen chirp in here with their expertise.

It IS the Combination of the ingredients, I have tried these Super and Uberlather's out for the best part of a year... Some actually work together better than others, to produce really outstanding results, and fragrances... You could give me all the science that you want to disprove this, and I would simply smile, and continue to enjoy my shaves to the fullest every morning
I"ll give you my top three, if you go back in the SOTD threads these are the ones that you'll see the most of on my threads.... and of course my stupid names for them
Best shave = The Lanolin Blast: Musgo Real Cream / Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap / 5 drops of Glycerin
Best Fragrance = The British Garden: Castle Forbes Lavender Cream / Taylor of Old Bond St. Lavender Soap / 5 drops of Glycerin
Most Luxurious = Slick Sandalwood: Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood Cream / Sue Bee's (various scent combo's) Sandalwood Soap / 5 drops of Glycerin
Here is one that costs pennies to make and works pretty darn good !!!!
The Gym Locker Mix: Edge Activecare Hydrating shave cream / Williams Shave Soap / 5 drops of glycerin
I mix this up in my tupperware Williams container here at home, then take the whole thing to the gym where I make the lather right there in the little tupperware soap bowl...

Thanks for the post Glen. I'm glad to have someone challenge the waste of soap theory as it DID give me a great shave. Nice and smooth.
I just couldn't pin-point why though. Guess I was trying too many new things at once (KOS oil, Glycerine, new Creams/soaps) Too many variables as per my SOTD thread.
In your opinion then, is it the Glycerine that is producing the better lather?

OOOOooooo I don't know if you could single it out like that to being the Glycerin.....
The difference between a Super lather and an Uberlather would be the density of the lather if I had to pin it down.
If you were to take any of my three top ones that I listed, and mixed them without the glycerin, the only difference you would notice in looking at the lather is a sort of sheen...
Any snow skiers out there would know what I mean with this statement "the Glycerin makes it into Champagne Powder" not just powder...
After the shave the feeling would just be a slight bit less softness to yer cheeks...
That's the best I can do describing it in words......

I tried Super-lather (soap/creme mix) a couple of times, but wasn't too impressed with the result. This morning I tried Pre de Provence soap with TGQ's Orange Patchouli creme and five drops of glycerin. Wow! What a difference! By far the best shave of my life! I'll continue to experiment with different soap/creme combination (+ glycerin), but this was certainly a great starting point into a whole new shaving experience. Thank you very much, gssixgun, for introducing it to this forum. Whether it was your idea to begin with, really doesn't matter to me.
