Soap as a preshave?

Hello

I saw a couple of vids on youtube where a barber was simply applying some soap on the face of the client before the hot towel.

I have a sensitive skin that doesn't really like the regular proraso soap for multiple passes (still am on the Schick Extreme3, but moved on the soap).

But I also saw here that the menthol of proraso's pre/post shave was good to open the pores. So did I just find a preshave product that will last a long long time?

My main question here is about the soap VS other preshave products.

soap will definitely soften your beard. some folks even put lather on their face and let it sit there while they strop their razor(s) to get the hairs to really soak it in.

a little off topic, but honestly, that Extreme3 probably isn't helping your sensitive skin either, so it may not be the soap. don't forget that having multiple blades like that is like already having multiple passes, so two passes with that schick is really like 6 passes, and three is actually 9!!!

Occasionally I use body lotion as a pre-shave when I have a sore skin.

I know, but for the moment I don't really have a choice. I switched to soap to have a good lathering technique before I get a straight, wich is on the way. I got a starter kit from Kenrup

I went to crabtree & evelyn today to get some samples. I will go back soon since the soap refills are 3$ each

If you shower before you shave, some conditioner (the stuff you'd use on your hair) might help as a preshave. I put some all over my face and let it sit while I soap up the rest of my body, then rinse it all off, hop out, and have a shave.

Depends on the soap. They have these soaps that contain alot of conditioners and moisturizers and cold cream so I guess it could help. Remember also that shave soap is, well, soap too so why not just apply it and leave it on while you strop and all that.

Keep the soap while shaving on or wash off before shaving?

I have been washing it off, but I was vwondering if I should leave it on as an extra layer.

I wash my face in the shower but rinse the soap off. Let me tell you if you have a good cream or soap you won't need anything else. I highly recommend Castle Forbes lime oil cream
