Default 'younger' smell

So im new to straight razor shaving, had my second shave today. I had a few knicks here and there which i didnt have the first shave but i think i was slightly less cautious....anyway, i got some samples of soaps/creams from thegentlemensquarter.com and tried one of them today. Theyre all really nice but I realized that they all smell kind of 'old'. Now i know straight razor shaving is kind of a throw back so it makes sense to have throw back kinds of creams but does anyone know of any 'younger' smelling stuff. I'm not even sure if it exists or this question will even make sense to anyone. I think i noticed it because some nivea aftershave i have smells manly but at the same time has a 'younger' kind of smell. sorry for all the ' '

themachine313... You can use unscented soap or cream. Then just use your A/S and your fav cologne for the final chick magnet.

Contact Colleeen @ TGQ and ask her if she has something not so nostalgic, she is a member here it would be easy to shoot her aPM and see if she's got anything more, er, how do you say it, more hip. Now you kids get off my lawn!!

You could also try Mama Bear's soaps... she has a lot of bright, fresh scents that don't have that "old man" hint.

Just go into your local shopping mall and belly up to the counter and the Young girl there will be more that happy to separate you from your cash and sell you some fru -fru after shave with a designer name to attract the chicks.

It is suspected the razor is haunted.

You might try the body shop's shave creme. Not all of the "new school" shave creams are ment to be whipped up into lather so be careful what you get.

Default You got it wrong!

You got it all wrong you wipper snapper!

You /want/ to smell like their grandfather. Scent is heavily attatched to memories, most people's memories of their grandparents are from when they were very young and their grandparents were very loving, supportive and spiled them rotten. Go in there triggering undefined memories of feeling loved and cared for and see where that takes you.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

Orange Patchouli is a fresher, more youthful scent from TGQ. When it comes to modern shaving soaps/creams, you basically have 2 choices:
1) Old
2) Detergent

I have to agree some deodorant smell like old and when I detected the smell of Axe on my 50 years old father, it was just way too weird. Something was just wrong there for me.

But on the other side, I have to admit I really like the smell of Bay rum. I'm not a master with the ladies, but I would guess smell isn't everything

But if you are worried, try some cream "for sensitive skin", I tried Taylor's shaving cream and it smells practically nothing (and the lathering properties of that thing is amazing).

Or we could ask Colleen to make a Axe shaving cream. I once saw on TV that a mix of licorice and cucumber was the closest thing to human pheromones.

Default haha

oh man, i guess i should have known i would get a response like this. now im just going to be known as that trying-to-be-trendy young whipper snapper haha . well i guess i'll look into that orange patchuli cream. I really like the smell of the oak and moss soap from TGQ actaully. It is a subtler smell than the others. maybe thats what i am looking for...

Gents, there are a lot of us chicks who *hate* the "old man" scents, so I'm glad to know there are a few guys like themachine313 who want to get away from that. Old Spice in particular makes me want to hurl... not only do I not want to smell that, I don't want to smell my grandfathers or father, either (one grandfather and my father never bathe, and the other grandfather has no discernable scent that I associate with him).

If you want a gal who hates "traditional" men's soap scents to spend a lot of time up close and personal, I strongly suggest using a soap that smells edible. Mama Bear's chocolate mousse, creme brulee, gingerbread, and anything fruity (lime, polynesian red, etc.) are a good start.

Hm, actually... my fiance loves the smell of my Old Spice Classic.

Ask your girlfriend what scents she likes. Then use them. If you haven't got a girlfriend you must have a girl who would love to go shopping with you. Let her drag you through one or two shoe stores. Do not give her your honest opinion on anything she tries on. Listen to her comments about the shoes and agree with her assesment of the fit and the design. Once you have her in a position where she "owes you one" take her to the scent counter and there pay close attention to the scents she chooses for you. Since you have helped her with her shoes, she will be more than willing to help you find the right sent for you.
