Default nut free soap?

Hello everyone. extremely new to straight shaving (just bought my first straight from the classifieds yesterday) and irritatingly i'm the sort of person that likes to know everything before i start

My fiance has a severe nut allergy (she carries an adrenaline injector everywhere, her reaction's that bad) and so i need a nut free shaving soap. No almond, no coconut (even though its not specifically a nut) no walnut, etc etc etc.

I'd also like it to be vaguely nice smelling, or unscented, and reasonably easy for a complete novice to get a lather with.

I like the smell of mint, and lime, and general 'clean' fragrences, but not lavender.

its a lot to ask, but i'm sure you friendly bunch at SRP can help me!

Thanks in advance,

Tink.

You should double check to make sure she's not also allergic to palm kernel oil since that will be what is often used to replace coconut oil. Its extracted from the seed of the palm fruit so I'm not sure if that's considered a nut or not. Same goes for shea butter, derived from shea nuts. If you have to avoid all those, I'm afraid you may be looking at a very limited selection.

Have you tried Proraso? As far as I know it doesn't contain anything nutty, except a long parade of loyal users. It's a creme, but it's good stuff

You might actually want to check the vendors section of the forum and contact our resident soap mistress's with your question... When it comes to allergies you can't be to careful, and they would be able to tell you exactly what is in their soaps/creams.....

she's allergic to palm oil, but not too sure about shea butter. if its made from nuts then probably best to avoid.

I've been looking at some of mama bears soaps, some of them sounds very nice! i'll most likely send her over an email and ask the neccesary questions.

Thanks for all the help so far,

Technically, almonds, coconuts and palm kernals are not nuts. In fact, coconut and other palms are not even trees, but a type of grass. This begs the question of exactly what she is actually allergic to and what other plant products might fall into the same catagory. For example, almonds are actually belong to the genus prunus which includes apricots, cherrys, nectarines, peaches and plums. All of these plants produce a type of fruit known as a drupe. Interestingly enough, the fruits from most palms including date, coconut and oil palms are also drupes. So maybe she is allergic to drupes as well as nuts. With this in mind, some other plants that produce drupes are:

Coffee, jujube, mango, olive and pistachio.

well mama bear's got back to me, and all of the ones i'm interested in are completely nut free, so i'll get some from her
with regards being allergic to other things, apricots, cherrys, nectarines, peacjes plums, mangos are all fine, but she doesnt like coffe (so never had more than a mouthful) or olives, and obviously has avoided pistachios, coconut, etc.

I think i'll be fine with mama bears soaps if not, then i'll just have to keep searching.

You're in very good hands with Mama Sue Tink! Spike and I have 3 of her shaving soaps. I have the Tahitian Vanilla and Pearberry which are both seriously lush and we share her unscented shave soap too. Mama Sue also has a very quick turnaround, from when we ordered to when the goodies arrived in the UK, it took less than 2 weeks.
