Anyone know why my pink (rose scented) shave cream doesn't stay pink when I lather it up in the bowl? Ditto for green (lime), etc?

It is sort fo like how when English rock stars are singing, you can clearly hear what they are saying. But if you interview them just talking you can't tell what the heck they are saying.

Two things:

Think of how little cream you're actually using to produce that lather. The dye pigment to volume is different and produces less color. Also, the lather is made of small bubbles which reflect white light.

It may also have to do with diffraction of light.

Snowflakes, if you looks at them individually are clear transparent, or rather translucent, so why does it look white? Because the light goes in and through them ,and gets bounced around and basically comes back out. The same happens with your shave suds. The individual bubbles are clear and translucent, so the light goes in, bounces around and comes back out.

Try replacing the bulbs in your bathroom with black lights, put on some Pink Floyd and then check out what your lather looks like!
