i just bought some Wilkinson Sword soap in a tub and am just wondering if anyone has some suggestions for the best way to get a consistent lather every time. the only other soap i have used were either in a tube or a puck for the bottom of my mug. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

If it's a hard soap, then you will probably have to have the brush a little wetter than a soft, or glycerin soap. If you use a lather bowl, then get as much soap on your brush as you can, and have a little water in the lather bowl and beat it until uyou have a nice fluffy lather built. If you lather on your face, then just a little whimper of a whip of the brush to take a bare minimum of water off it, repeat above then go to your face to build the later instead of a bowl.

no i use a bowl and can get a decent lather but am just kind of looking for a routine i guess. should i wet the brush to get more soap. like i said it works fine (and better then my other soaps) but i have just never used this type before. thanks

My only experience with hard soaps has been Colleens, Shaving, Bath and Body, Skincare, Home Fragrance, Brushes, Creams, Soaps (I absolutely love the Provence Lavender, and will be ordering the Oak & Moss when I use up some of my other soaps). I found that I need to have the brush a little wetter than with softer soaps. How much that is? I really can't describe it other than what I put in my previous post. It's something you will find with experience.

Hi...I have been using wilkinson sword soap for a few weeks now and yup it is a very hard soap. My routine is this I soak my badger hair brush and also put a little water on top of the soap.

Take my shower, when done I take the brush and squueze and shake most of the water out of it and drain off the soap of any water.

I work the brush pretty hard until I get the bristles loaded up pretty good.
The bristles are loaded to the point where they cling togeather.

I then move the brush to my lather cup and give the brush 5 or 6 swirls then take the brush and give it a real quick trip under the sink faucet that is barely on then back to the cup and work the lather until it begins to look dry then more water and back to the cup. I keep adjusting the water until I get the lather where I want it. When I finish the lather is very thick and dense.

I live in an area that has very soft water. The water supply here is melt from the mountain glaciers and rain water so I can get just about anything to lather.

I used to think Tabac was a real slick soap but the wilkinson sword soap has become my favorite lately. Great smell, good cushion and nice and slick.
I usually finish off the shave with a little Blenheim Bouguet and good to go.

thats great thanks. i have been inadvertently doing some of what you said but i will try putting the water on the soap and letting it sit for a bit to soften it up.

oh and what is Blenheim Bouguet? it is a little funny as i grew up in a place called Blenheim, not that that has anything to do with anything . ha!
