Hi Nick,
Yes, there are a few of us who shave our heads with the straight. Search the forum for posts by junkinduck, Soopercat, Johnny J or myself (among others). Probably a good search term would be "head shave" or similar.
Generally I'd advise you to learn how to use the straight, and be fairly confident and comfortable with it, on your face before going onto the head. If you are already in that boat, then make sure you have a nice sharp razor, are able to use both hands to shave, and go carefully.
Personally, I shave my head every day, but only one pass. I get close enough to BBS that way, without the extra hassle of trying to go against the grain in places I can't see.
On the back of the head where you cannot see the blade touching skin, use feel. This is why it is important to be comfortable with a straight on your face - so you know what a proper stroke "feels" like. You can also see the scales and their angle even when you are shaving the back of the head, so you can use that as a guide too. Being thorough and systematic is necessary on the back of the head - you don't want to walk around all day with a strip of unshaven hair on the back of your noggin!
Best of luck, and keep us posted on your progress and any tricks or tips you might find, or any problems you may encounter.
James.
