Does beard change depending on razor?

Several weeks ago, I read a response to a post in the Newbie forum in which someone stated that one's beard tends to change when they go from shaving with a multi-blade to str8 or electric to DE, etc. I can't find that post and never really understood what he meant.

Anyone care to expound on that idea?

I haven't noticed my beard feeling thicker than it did 8 months ago when I started straight razor shaving from using twin blade cartridges for years, but here is a thread you might be interested in looking at. Maybe it is the one you were thinking of?

I didn't see a change in my beard when I changed from Track 2 to straight. It has been several years and it is not heavier or thicker.

I haven't notice any changes in my beard in relation to shaving... I always had a thick beard - but not a very nice one... there are holes in it - and, having shaved with 2 and 3 blades, electric and DE, I never noticed anything - other than the quality of the shave of course.

In 45 years of shaving starting with Gillette and Schick razors and moving on to the Gillette Good News for a couple of decades I noticed no difference. The move back to DEs came a couple of years ago with straight razors taking over completely seven months ago. Still no change.

One thing that I observed in participating in this and other forums is that I had assumed and stated that I had a tough beard. Since I have never shaved anyone else I had nothing to compare to. In reading other posts on DE blade preferences I have determined that my beard is probably in the middle range with a couple of tough areas on the chin and neck.

Since the DE shaver is starting with a sharp blade and his ability to hone and strop is not an issue I think I am safe in assuming that the difficulty some men have with a blade that I find satisfactory indicates they have a tougher beard. Of course technique or the lack has to be considered but I am talking about veteran wet shavers.

I've noticed what appears to be a change, but it's probably due to the fact that I'm paying more attention. So the change is in perception not I'm assuming in hair type.

My skin is much clearer using a Str8. For years my neck was constantly irritated and ingrown hairs were common if I used any of the multi-blade cartridges. I don't think beard growth is affected one way or the other though.

I think that what may have been said is that your beard as it grows feels different depending on what you have shaved with. The straight for me leaves the cut hair ends feeling the softest.

The DE leaves it spikier ad a an electric leaves it feeling horrible.

Like English said, it's how the cut ends feel from the type of razor used not if the hair physically changes with different razors/shavers. Most of us probably cut our fingernails from time to time. Has anyone noticed that the nail gets thicker or thinner with each cutting? Probably (hopefully) not. Now has anyone noticed that their fingernails are getting gray like their beard?

I agree with English.
I don't remember how the Mach 3 left my hair, but a DE leaves it very sharp. I think it is the angle the blade is attacking the hair from, and the cleaness of the cut.
