Hello everyone. This is my first post, I apologise for my awkward English (I'm Italian) . I bought a new DOVO best quality 5/8 razor. I think it is almost shave-ready, it was honed by the seller and my barber confirms it's sharp, but it pulls a bit and it looks like I can get far closer a shave with my shavette. I have a DOVO hanging strop which is built in such a way that I cannot use it on the 'opposite' (i.e. the internal) side. I also have red/black Stangen paste, I think it could be used to improve sharpness, but the question is: where could I put it, as I just don'have the money to buy another strop? Thank you very much

Hello! You don't need to apologize for your English, it's just fine. As for where to put the paste, you could use a newspaper or piece of cardboard laying on a flat surface. In fact, there are several posts on the site that talk about using a newspaper to strop with when you have nothing else.

Where in Italy do you live? I'm in Modena.

Thank you, it looks like the pasted newspaper worked, a really better shave, still not 'there', but a fine one. I'm in Vicenza!

I was gonna suggest stealing someone's seatbelt... heh. I'd try that trick too but I already have a pasted strop.

Really heavy paper (>160 g) is a much easier to use paste strop medium than newspaper. It stays flat and dosen't bunch up.

Im from San Mango, Calabria , and i bought a DOVO Shavette ... and i have never shaved straight blade before... is the Shavette recomended???????? If so what blades do you use?? And dose it come with inserts for both big and small blades.

If you really want to go "High Tech", you need something with a resistant rubber padding that will stick to slick surfaces and some kind of special material on top, design so that stuff glides easily. Washable under the tap with a nylon brush would be great also.

Cut a 3 inches wide strip off an old mouse pad (the one's not used anymore since the advent of LED and Laser mice) and the you have it.

If you buy a stone you can glue 2 strips together (fabric side to fabric side) you'll get a really stable base for you stone. This what I use for my slick as glass Swaty. In that case I used a 1/8 of an inch thick pad, normally these pads are closer to 1/4 inche.
