Default Strop Width

I just received my straight razor set from Vintage Blades. It came with a 1.75" strop. My concern is that the strop width doesn't cover the entire width of the blade. Am I missing something here, or does the strop not need to be at least as wide as the razors cutting edge?

Nope, most strops are not the width of blades. You can do an x-pattern on the strop to cover the entire width of the blade.

Or a "C" pattern - that one works well for me.

+1 to above - I use a "C" shape when stroping, and an X when honing.

I had been wondering if anyone else did a "C".....

Well, it's really more of an X pattern but with a curvy stroke to it: like an (-pattern maybe. The heel moves slightly slower than the toe during the stroke.

I like it because I end up not having to figure 8 the razor - at the end of each stroke the razor is where it needs to be to begin the next stroke. That's just a personal preference thing though...

Interesting... been shaving for quite a while and first time I have heard of a C-stroke for the strop. I'll have to give it a try.
