Default Grit/micron

I'm thinking about trying a pasted strop but I'm not familiar enough with the concept to be able to get an idea how micron ratings of strop pastes relate to grit.

Obviously, the larger the micron the more coarse the abrasive but how does a 5 micron paste compare to a grit rating, etc.?

Comments?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately there is no universal standard on grit to micron conversion - it depends on a few things like particle geometry, manufacturer, etc. But here is a thread with some info to give you a general idea.

Micro-Abrasive Sheets: Micron to Grit Conversion

Captain Zero gives an excellent description of the issues surrounding grit and micron relationships here:

Wondering about grits!

I remember reading that the 3 micron diamond paste on a TM strop is roughly equivalent to 8000 grit.
