Default New Soap Kitchen

A couple folks asked for pics of the new soap kitchen... well... I have some great before pictures... I have no idea what I will end up with, but the beginnings are auspicious. There is an area with cabinets already and there is water in the area.. so I am hoping this will be the actual kitchen... as moving day is still 6 weeks off, this is going to be a long time coming.. but here is my start..

The larger area will be storage and I will get shelving units in there once it is all cleared and cleaned out...

The kitchen itself will be used for soaping as well as brewing.. so there will lots of interesting things being created in my basement... I think we are going to need a name for this future mad scientists lab someday... suggestions are welcome.

Meanwhile.. I have a million orders to get out... so back to work for me...

Very nice! So that's where the creation of the "special" soap I've been anticipating will take place?

So that's the new "bear cave". I don't see anyone working .

Uncle Sam has a check coming my way and I plan on spending some of it with my new friends. My "buck a puck" days with Williams is wearing thin and I need some "good stuff".

Good luck with the new digs and an order wil be your way soon.

How about the brew&suds-o-matic, the labearatory, Mama’s den, soap-a-rama, brew-a-rama? Maybe make a batch of bay rum stout?

Looks like a PD patch collection on the back wall.

Bay Rum Stout... .lol.... hmmm.... well......

I did make a batch of Jack Daniels Stout once.. put a 5th of jack in 5 gallons of stout before bottling and let it go to town. I am willing to try the rum, but not sure what to do about the bay..... this is going to fester isn't it... I will use just about any excuse to make a batch of stout tho... I have 5 gallons in the secondary and am going to do another batch this weekend.

The guy that used to own the house was the local sherriff.... he passed away and his widow is selling the place. She wants a smaller modular house. Me, I want that basement.. among other things it is perfect for me.

Wow.. I have been working my tail off all day... and am done. Did someone say Stout?

orders are on the way!!!!!!

I knew a guy that was big-time in home brew. I am into coffee (into would be an understatement) so we combined the two. He called it ‘grounds for divorce’. A stout with a pound of coffee added to the wort. He put it in a big cheese cloth steeping bag. The caffeine would counteract the alcohol and you would get a caffeine/alcohol buzz, very odd sensation and made you do stupid stuff, hence the name.

That reminds me of the Drew Carey show.. they made something up called Buzz Beer.... with coffee.

I might just have to try that one day.... he steeped 1 lb coffee grounds or coffee beans?

Edit.. you need to try my Turkish Mocha shaving soap by the way... ;-)

It was grounds, ground for a French press extraction. You don’t want to over steep the coffee or you will extract the unwanted solids (nasty, yucky things). If you ever want to try it I could roast you up a pound of a potent coffee and run it through one of my grinders. Yes, I buy green coffee, have a small roaster and multiple commercial grinders (and espresso machines). You may be able to use a coffee concentrate as well.

I think I may get a bar of that soap!

This is definately worth talking about.... Did your friend steep the grounds at the beginning with the grain then remove the bag and throw it out before making the wort?

I honestly don’t remember. He has long moved on and I have not kept up with him. Since coffee requires a brew temperature between 195 and 205, with a 3-4 minuet extraction time (depending on grind) I assume he added it with the grain/malt cooking. Heat is bad for coffee so adding pre brewed coffee to your water at the beginning would turn the coffee bitter (re-cook the coffee).

I have been a woman in a man's world all of my life.. .and one thing I have learned.. the girly stuff.. well, er... it has a place in life.. just not in mine.

There are feminine scents that I like... sometimes I wear them for me.. sometimes I wear them for the gentleman in my life. There is a time and place for them.

I lean more towards the masculine scents tho.. those are the ones that make me want to swoon. I don't wear them (of course) but that doesn't mitigate my attraction for them. I swear, someday I am going to give up on my fabulous single woman life, just to have a man that wears scents I like and is willing to be a guinea pig for my science projects... er... um.. well....
