Default Well Shaved Gentleman, Hones

While I don't do business on Sundays I did want to give a little advance notice of an upcoming sale while everyone is home and exploring their hobbies and fun stuff today (just like me).

I am selling a large number of Belgian and Thuringen hones from my own collection. These are not part of my business inventory but private stock from my hobbiest collection. I'll be listing them on Monday morning on my storefront to make purchasing easier but didn't want to just throw them up there without a little heads-up first.

These range from small barber's hone sized piece up to a whopping 2 1/2" x 10 natural yellow/blue.

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday.

Tony

I think the blue is considered around 6K the yellow around 8K but most find that the yellow cuts far finer than grit size would indicate. It have be thet the garnets in the stone break down into smaller and smaller particles as the slurry is created.

Belgians and Eschers (Thuringens and to the same extent Hunsruecks) are considered to be the best natural finishing stones. newer man made (whether synthetic or natural grits, labratory bonded) do give them a run for their money now days.

so i have been looking for a hone to just bring back a razor that has some miles on it, but nothing like setting the bevel. would these be something to look at? i only have a couple razors so i would only want one of the smaller ones i think. any idea on prices? (sorry if i am being impatient, if so feel free not to answer that) thanks

Chee: click on Tony's website link in his post right above yours and you'll see his hones listed. That's a nice looking natural in the box, Tony. It's tempting for me. I have about six coticules now of different sizes and performance wise, they range from good (I don't think there's a bad coticule) to excellent. The differences in performance are mostly subtle but noticeable. It kind of hogties me for pricier coticules because without knowing it's performance in comparison to the ones I already own, I hesitate to buy. My problem. I'm intrigued by replacing my other coticules with one coticule but.....

Is the one in the box harder? Meaning, when honing with water, does the stone release slurry on it's own without the aid of any slurry stone? I prefer softer coticules. I have one 8"x3" natural that is hard and won't produce it's own slurry at all but I have a vintage combo that's so soft it produces slurry quickly and cuts just as quickly. That one cuts and polishes at the same time making it my best performer.

Any info would be appreciated.
