Hi SIB
In daily use I only need the lather like you see it on the video. Ones the year I go to the stone, a fine one. My experience in using straight raiser is something more the 10 years, at this time I missed a forum like yours, had to learn it my self. Some old people gave mi tips.
Thank you for your interest.

Hard to explain, I was passably happy with it. Maybe a other indicator: my girl was very happy and kissed me and hardly stopped.

I do not hot the razor, only the brush and the soap pot in steam. Maybe you realised that I do not have hot water from the tab.

Sure, I know there are different types of skins and barbs, with mine I can do it fast.

What we dont see in your video is all the things that made your shave what it was. We never saw your razor being honed. We only saw a slight rub on the strop. So whilst you maybe did them there is no indication for new shavers. Which is why the newbie section of this forum gets inundated by the same questions regularly, and why people like myself get a little narked.
please explain- what do you mean by "hi is not easy even not on the photo
it is a old razor used by my gent father"
But like I already said. You did look happy
|
First I try to apologies about what I was saying about you. I was not in a good mood after reading about faking video speed. I did not know that this is a learn forum and it was not my placing the video in here. The preparation was to take a shower to make the barb soft. I do not hone my razor, only use the leather as you can see in the video. Ones the year I go to the stone, a fine one.
Kind regards, Willi

Ich finde es cool das Sie sich so schnell wie ein Blitz rasieren kann!

I think this is right, but I may stand corrected.

In daily use I only need the lather like you see it on the video. Ones the year I go to the stone, a fine one. The razor is from Sweden owned by my grandfather, may god rest his sole, must have a age between 50 to 80 years. (the razor)

I regularly do a 7-10 min shave out of convenience and because of the fact that I tend to like to sleep in. 2 passes, acceptably smooth for a work day but not ideal by any means.
3 passes (WTG/XTG/WTG) seems to give me the best result and that takes about 12-15 mins now. (this includes lather and stropping time)
I should also mention that I find it much easier to shave quicker with a stiff grind vs a hollow, and bigger razors rather than smaller. Probably in part due to the weight.

Welcome Willi!! What a great shave and a great video, I loved it! It looked like you were having too much fun! I also like the long stroke insted of a short stroke. 3 minutes 48 seconds, we need to do a breakdown as to when to start timing and at what moment a shaver is finito, and we can make this the first event at the first annual straight shavers rodeo! Im game if you are!

- The guy is experienced, hats off to him and respect.
- I don't think it's sped up.
- I agree about the next day -- you can get away going ATG straight off with slightly longer growth and calm skin. But shaving next day or day after he'd feel it for sure. His skin will need two days at least to calm down after that.
- Youtube quality vid doesn't show how close he got. I reckon not that close, but the difference between long growth at the start and what he finished with is so big that one might be fooled into thinking it was a close shave.
- His skin must be pretty tough. That was probably close to boiling water if not actually boiling. "Heiss!" confirmed it would be hot as hell. If he can spread that all over his face, even with thick growth, he ain't got sensitive skin. So maybe he's blessed and can shave fast 'n' dirty without paying too much for it.
- He's truly two-handed in his technique. And he knows it too "Links hande" he declares halfway through. I reckon to do the four-minute mile, sorry shave, you have to be as confident with both hands. I'm not. I don't think I could do that (and I have less than half the beard coverage he has!).
(EDIT) Willi -- I posted this without reading all the recent responses. Glad you chimed in. Thanks for clearing up most of our queries. I have two more questions for you:
- how close was the shave?
- did you shave the next day or day after? If so, how did it feel on the skin?
Danke!
M.

First quest is answered somewhere else.
I shave every 2nd day, it feels normal.
Thank you for asking.
Kind regards, Willi

WTG= with the grain of the beard
XTG= across or perpendicular to the grain of the beard
ATG= against the grain of the beard.

I certainly can understand the concern about not using this video as an example for newbs, but...
It was a very charming video. Many thanks to the OP and the guy in the vid... Don't let the critics get to you... alot of us think it was a great video.

I just love the video. Willi goes about his shave like a guy who has done it that way for years. I also love the shave because it taught me a new trick..... the way WIlli holds the razor on his ATG pass was just something I had to try, kind of a "EUREKA" moment for me....so I had to try it.
And I got closer with a straight than I ever have before.
So thanks for the cool video....and also, the groovy dancing girl video was interesting as well.
