An avid shaver, that's for sure.
Based on the grating sound his razor still produces during the final passes, I don't think he went for a very smooth shave.

OK, I only have 2 days of growth, but I heated up a cheap brush like he did, and RIPPED out a shave like he did. I have to say, heating the brush and water like that works pretty damn well!

Looks like I learned something today...thanks German (I think) dude!

Not a smooth one and not a confortable one either for sure... but he was shaving at the speed of light! I was freaked out by the sound of that. And only 7 strokes on the strop?! That's a good razor that is!

I did notice that too... any thoughts on that, Joe? Can anybody chime in and add something to this cookery technique? Thanks... and by the way... I take it that the super-duper-faster-than-than-the-speed-of-the-sond-the-razor-makes gentleman is not a member here, right? Doesn't he make us feel... bougeois?!

I have a great deal of trouble with this video. This is why:

1. He takes NO care in his technique at all. Watch the angle of the blade again. It varies WIDELY and RAPIDLY between 0 degrees and 90 degrees to the skin. Its a farce.

2. The video is obviously sped up ever so slightly. The shave likely took 5 mins and not the 3 and a half minutes the video claims.

3. The razor is not stropped well at all. Unless he has done some pre-video stropping then he needs alot more work on it there. He gave it, what, 5 strokes on the strop?

4. The guy seems to wildly throw the razor over his face with no care to the direction of his beard. He doesnt take his time. As a result he cuts himself 3 times.

So forgive me but no, this is not what I would call a good shaving video. And before you say it I will put a shave video up if thats what it takes. But not until after the SRP:UK meet (when it makes its debut).

Hey man, we ARE the shaving bourgeoisie here... I have read on Badgerandblade that "cooking" the brush in boiling water is a big part a super great shave though. I just never tried it myself.

I did notice the total lack of stropping though, I just assumed he did it "for real" before hand. Since he effectively (comfort, maybe not), I wouldn't call it a farce per se. Misleading, yes...

So he didnt do a lot of fru fru stuff, so what. I thought it was a great video, all he did was cut the BS and get to it. The only thingt he did was skip the advanced prep a lot of us enjoy. Evidently his pleasure is in gettin" 'er done.

Hell if it works for him and he's happy, who gives a damn about his lack of facial prep, stropping and what angles he uses?

He nicked himself a couple times yes, but how is that any different from those, who take their time, are real careful but still nick themselves? Lynn has been shaving with a straight for donkeys years and IIRC, he nicked himself in one of his video and then demonstrated how to use a styptic pencil.

I thought it was pretty good and was wondering if perhaps, that guy is one who shaves straight off a 6k.

I'll give the guy the props he deserves. He has serious blade skills. We can't deny that. Regardless if the video was sped up or not-he HAS confidence in his skills.

My guess is that razor isn't a high dollar piece either. Even with the best pre shave prep and the finest blade the world of razors could create-if I tried to shave,for me about a 5 day growth that fast-I'd be in need of a transfusion.Sloppy and careless yes-but I'm still impressed.

Perhaps I give a damn about this stuff because I frequent the Newbie section and am regularly faced with peeps asking the same questions like 'I saw this on youtube, why cant I do this yet?', 'This guy on youtube only strops a few times, is that right?', 'Some people say there is a correct angle but this guy on youtube gets a great shave with all sorts of angle. What am I doing wrong?'. You get the picture. So yes I give a damn.

I guess my best solution is to stop helping newbies, eh? Someone else can do that, yeah?

I don't know man,
If some newbie honestly thinks he should be able to shave like this right off the bat, or even thinks about trying, I say that one is determined to learn the hard way. I think a larger percentage of newbies are like I was. Something sparked our interest so we began to research, we realized we were taking on something that would require time, patience, and could potentially be dangerous. In my initial research I looked at a bunch of youtube videos. I looked at ones about honing, stropping, and shaving. I remember in one of the shaving videos the guy got through it in four to five minutes. He was in his bathroom and the scene was a bit more conventional but I definitely knew that that was something to strive for and not just how it was going to go from the start. It's not the fault of anyone who decides to post an extreme shaving video on youtube, or you or I, if a noob decides not to be patient, research, and learn how to shave properly. With that said, I don't think any of us should stop giving advise in the newbie section to those who have legitimate questions and who are trying to learn about straight shaving.

As for the video, I thought it was great. It kind of reminded me of the one posted a month or so ago where the blade smith, I can't remember his name, shaves six months growth with a hunting knife with almost no beard prep. Any newbies want to try that one

You guys are funny......the only purpose of this video was for entertaining , not to set up a new standard for shaving, i apologize if this video can hurt some newbies on the rise to shaveheaven.
I thought of sharing this video because i thought it was funny and very charming, how some folk in a village in germany( the video wasn't shot in some penthouse in berlin...) has a very rude and primitive way of shaving.
I also agree with my friend sidneykidney who commented in his lack of proper technique, i think he got away with it because he didnt shave in a long time, i bet he couldnt shave again the next day without making his face raw like a hamburger, i could bet he will be in pain for the whole day.
I also agree he used a not so nice strop with very very poor stropping.
So ...yes ...i dont recommend to follow this guys prep and technique...but never the less i think this guy is THE BOMB he seems to be a VERY happy dude with a big fammily and this days i appreciate that a lot.
So this is to you german country man....CHEERS!!!!!!

I have a small kettle and hotplate beside my sink. I boil water, pour it in my scuttle, and use the rest for my brush. I notice that it makes a frothier and more full lather, and helps soften the whiskers. I didn't think he shaves much faster than I do, but then I thought about it, and I guess his 2 passes is about as fast as my 1.
