Default New Malt whisky

Today I went shopping for malt whisky with my lovely wife, who loves the stuff as much as I do. We went to the specialty shop we always go to.

The first one was a suggestion from the proprietor.
Nikka whisky. It is a Japanese blend, but instead of blending malt with grain, they blend malt with other malt that has been distilled like grain whisky. It was very cheap, but a really well rounded whisky.

Then we have the Arran. Again nothing fancy but a whisky that really goes down well.

Now we get something more special: a Dufftown (which is not common) finished on rum casks. This gives a really special taste. I think it is good, my wife thinks it is superb so I tend to leave our rumwoods alone and let her have them. after all, she doesn't touch some of the whiskies that I buy which she doesn't like.

And this is the really good stuff. A 31 year old cask strength un-chillfiltered lowlands whisky from the linlithgow distillery. Haven't tasted it yet. I promised to let the wife open it when she gets home tonight.

And finally, one of the best whiskies ever: the 31 year old cask strength un-chillfiltered dailuaine. Its taste is indescribable. Think of what a very good 31 year old whisky would taste like, and then imagine if they had added red chili peppers to the fermentation process. it is really spicy, finished on a sherry cask made this whisky unique.
this was the last bottle of a very limited edition.

It is a good thing that my wife loves whisky as much as I do, because this shopping trip wasn't exactly cheap. I could have gone shopping at Livi's for what this lot cost. Good thing we only do this like twice per year. Thrice at the most...
Ah well... this is the only luxury item we indulge in, and we both appreciate it. Might as well enjoy life while we are living it.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

I wonder what you mean by cheap when talking whiskys Bruno. Probably still out of my price range at least right now. But I wonder if they sell it here. Looks like a great shopping trip. To bad I can't get my wife to enjoy anything that tastes even remotely like whisky.

Hey Tim, no if I say cheap I mean cheap. It was only 21 euros.
Normally I am not into blended whisky, but this one was really good.
It could have passed for malt. In fact, this blend is a lot better than any high end blended whisky, save for Johny Walker blue label, which costs 10 or 15 times as much.

If you can find it / order it online, it should be well worth it.
And even your wife may like it because it is really smooth.
