Default Blue-Point 6" Digital Calipers

Got a great deal on a set of Blue-Point 6" digital calipers and it arrived in the mail today! Woo!!! Some of you may be asking "what's so fine about that?"- it's the fact that it's Blue-Point. It's the difference between a Zeepk and a custom Joe Chandler

Calipers are a type of sliding measuring device sort of like a clamp. It slides in and out and can tell you to a thousandth the size of whatever you're measuring. You can see them here: Caliper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mine are the ones on the top, Vernier Calipers, except that mine are digital

Depending on what you do, you may never need them or you may use them every day. They're handy as hell when you need them though. Here's a recent problem to highlight their handiness: When I was rebuilding my truck's engine, there was one bolt that just wasn't coming out. No amount of penetrating oil was working, so the only option was to cut the head of the bolt off. Since I had others like it, I didn't think I needed to keep it (lesson learned), so I threw that bastard away. I have since found out that GM doesn't have a clue that bolt exists and can't help me, so I get to buy a bolt just guessing. With the calipers, I can measure the width of the hole and figure out which bolt I need, but I can also accurately measure the depth of the hole so I get the right length. Since this is going into the engine block itself, you can see how important it is to get it right.

If your mom's got a good set just laying around, you might see if you can have them. A good set isn't always easy to come by!

I got myself one of these a while ago.

Digital caliper on eBay

The world famous precision instruments brand Mitutoyo makes/sells exactly the same and there are other companies that rebrand these calipers as well.

I won't be surprised if they come from the same production site.

Although I'm glad I bought one and never had any issues with it, this guy has a funny one

Digital caliper bug

It wouldn't surprise me if mine is a rebranded one. I just know that Blue Point wouldn't put its name on something that wasn't quality.

That's an odd glitch- I tried to reproduce it on mine and couldn't, so maybe that one was just DOA
