Unfortunately -and despite lots of training- my body still needs it.
Let me describe how the previous night went (it is now 7.15)
23.00 - I finish my 1 glass of whisky and go to bed.
24.00 - Nele wakes up so my wife has to go out and put that thingy (pacifier?) in her mouth so that she can sleep again.
02.00 - the same again
02.15 - the same again
02.30 - the same again, but now I get out of bed
02.40 - the same again. I check the diaper, and it ad absorbed pretty much all it can. This doesn't usualy happen, and there was no smell so we don't check unless there is a problem, because then both she and I will be fully awake. Which is exactly what we are by now.
02.50 - she doesn't want to sleep yet, and when she talks, she loses that thingy again, so I spend the next 10 minutes standing aside het bed in the dark, in the cold, to put that thing back as soon as she spits it out. in the end she falls asleep, and I can now go back into bed, fully awake.
04.55 - my wife is briefly awake, checks her alarm clock, accidentally triggers it, and we both wake up
05.40 - Kato wakes up and thinks it is time to snuggle in our bed. I tell her she has to wait for the alarm, and put her back in her bed.
06.25 - Kato snuggles in our bed 5 minutes early, so I can cuddle her briefly.
06.30 - the alram clock went off and I get up.
Admittedly, this was the worst night of the week, but we get this weekly or biweekly.
Most nights we wake up only twice or thrice. And every blue moon we only wake up once.
A whole night sleep only happens only if the kids are at my parents.
Actually I am still amazed at how well I function during the day, considering the scant hous of broken sleep I got.
Still, that doesn't mean I have it in me to chat on a weeknight from 2AM to 4AM, and then get up for work at 6:30.
So I'll take a rain check for now.
