Wood box for honing stone
Hello!
I recently bought a translucent arkansas from our Polish friend, but since the paper box is rather boring I dicided to try my skill in woodworking and make a nice little wooden box for it.
This is just the "basic design", things left to do; finesanding, linseedoil+carnubawax treatment, polishing.
The wood will turn out very nice, so I will also make a set of scales to match the box. The wood used is "Golden chain" or latin "Laburnum".
More pics to follow when I'm finished.

Looks great My only suggestion (from experience) you might want to give the stone a little more "room". The one I had, after the box got damp, whether from oil or water, it swelled and was almost impossible to get the stone out to lap and was impossible to get back in until I cut some relief.

Nice work. Also, I'd only use it for dry hone storage. I wouldn't put a wet hone into a wooden box.

Well now, just finished this little project, turned out quite good, though it will take a couple of weeks before the surface is really good. Since I use a mixture of linseed oil + beeswax +carnaubawax +hardener, one has to be patient!
The good thing is that the more U handle it, the more beautiful the wood gets!!

Well I have to say that is a lot prettier than the hollowed out sections of 2 by 4's I use for my hones!!!

@ Cactusbob: The wood grows at my brothers place, (The farm where I grew up) and since he likes carpenting, he has cut and dried various wood spieces many years ago...
So, you see, it's not just beautiful, it's also for free, not a bad thing in itself!!
