Scales material
I've got plenty of wood for scales... but what I'm looking for is a source for alternative material such as bone, micarta and any other suggestions would be good.
Thanks

Someone here said they bought a dog bone at PetsMart and cut a set of scales from that.
Theres been talk of making Micarta yourself, plenty of directions on the net,
Neon plastic from a neon colored clip board.
Polymer clay from an art supply store
Corian from a kitchen counter installer
If I think of any more I'll let you know
Cow horn, available at Tandy leather and other places

I just received an order of horn and synthetic material from Masecraft. They don't carry celluloid anymore though.

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!

The problem I am having is finding stock that is long enough. There are plenty of knife supply shops out there but your typical knife scale blank only goes out to 5 inch, I need 6 inch for razor scales. I may end up getting whole horn and bone and end up re-cutting my own blanks, which I would really like to avoid having to do.

There is "some guy"** over at BladeForums.com selling G10 for the price of shipping here: James Todd NEW G-10 Thread - New Sizes - BladeForums.com
If you have the equipment, you could get some of that and cut it down to size...

Thanks again for the input and info. I believe that I'll make a trip to Tandy company Monday to see what they've got in stock. I've been wanting to go get some leather to make some roll-up razor cases so now I've got two reasons to go!
