Don't believe nobody bid on this,did I miss something? can anyone give me an idea as to what year this razor is?
saw this,watched it, bid(the only bidder),got it for $5.99 +free shipping (he paid $8 to ship it,almost feel bad,it cost him $2 + ebay fees to sell it).shoulderless wade & butcher,5/8,barbers notch,buffalo(?) horn scales...GLUED TO A PIC FRAME.thats a new one on me.looked restorable,was hoping the other side,the glued side,was ok,it was,no pic of that but it was better than the front.sorry about the pics,used the scanner.
It was hot glued,which came off easily.one scale was cracked on the back and I cracked the front of the same scale getting the pins out.saved the bullseye washers and what looks like an alum. wedge.the scales are warped pretty good,and with the cracks and a big chip or two,I'm not sure if I'll try to save them.
Started with 100grt and went to 600 wetndry,then polishing compound,cleaned up nice enough,not mirror,but good enough for me on this project. after it was cleaned up ok i tarnished it with vinager and mustard to give back the old look,might use bluing on the letters then sand it to make them stand out more.also noticed on the inside of the scale was a "makers mark?" " T * F",don"t remember ever seeing that before. at the risk of being lynched here,I also filed down the tail to a point and rounded a lump around the pivot hole on the blade.I think it gives it more of a flowing curved look.

You got a good deal. I know you're pleased with your purchase, but I always get a chuckle out of similar posts from people that snag a good razor on Ebay and say similar things:

"Were you guys all sleeping???"
"Hello, why didn't you guys bid on this incredible razor I scored?" etc.

LOL... I know what you mean.I almost didn"t bid cause that seemed too good to be true,as is usually the case. no I don't want it the other way at all,turned out to be a nice razor,and I'm thinking about shaving with it without scales,just to try it out you understand. lol

You're going to end up with a very nice razor.
I never heard of the vinegar and mustard tarnishing trick. I'll have to give that a try on a crap blade--I'm pretty sure I can find one in the pile. Most people want shiny but I can see your point of trying to get it back to looking age appropriate.

as long as its high carbon steel it oxidizes(?) the surface to give a cool patina and also protects the steel very well from future rust. I use mustard in spots becuse it stays where you put it,its just the vinegar in the mustard that makes it work.I just dip the blade in vinegar and rub with my fingers till its dry,a couple minutes.you can also draw designs on the blade with the mustard and let it sit over night,then rinse.with a little practice you can make incredible looking blades,I used to do this on my knives when I made customs.neat part is,if you don't like it,just sand it or pollish it off and start over.
