Never use OSPHO by Skyco Company to remove rust from a blade. It DISSOLVED an old blade of mine. This product is sold for removing rust and for preparing metal for painting. It contanins phosphoric acid and will dissolve a straight razor blade before your eyes! I thought it might be like Naval Jelly. I will never use it either! Sanding and buffing from here on out for me. Be careful doing that also.

I've restored a few tools in the past and have used citric acid, it is excellent. It is in a powdered format and is just disolved in water. adon't worry about the razor being 'black' when it is taken out of the solution, it all sands / polishes off...!!!!!

I work in a hospital where I managed to get about a dozen tubs of this stuff, from the pharmacy - it had gone out of date and would have been thrown anyway........

That's unfortunate, I think someone else mentioned before using ospho to remove rust successfully. I bought some of this: Caswell Inc. - Evapo-Rust with an order I placed with them that worked well. I left an old well-rusted blade in it to 'test' it to see how it worked out, I left it far longer than recommended, like two days, in a container with some of it inside. Cleaned the rust off fine, noticed some discoloration to the blade from leaving it in for so long though and didn't really try to polish it out as I was just using it to test a few things. If I had removed it within the recommended time it wouldn't have been discolored as I had checked on it and just figured I'd just leave it in there to see what would happen.
