Talking NEAT 7-Day RAZOR BOX

From the Hobby Store I bought a cheap little wooden box 6 1/2 " X 3 1/ 8" X 2 1/4 " (inside dimensions) for storing 7 razors. I made partitions out of basswood strips. I drilled a pair of holes for each partition diameter in the the ends of the box near the inside walls and carved out the webs of the holes. The holes thus became slots for the ends of the partitions. The razor stowage capacity will vary according to the thickness of the partitions used. On the lid, which is smooth, I smeared .5 micron Diamond Paste for a "traveling hone". I cut a piece of leather to lay over the razors nested in the box which can be laid atop the box top for stropping. This is a neat little box for travel or just storage. It cost $3 American. The box is made in China and has dove-tailed joints! I couldn't/wouldn't have made one for that price.

Sounds cool. How about posting some pictures. I'd like to see it.

Default No photos of razor box

I do not have a camera yet. I am looking/trading for one. In the meantime check out Hobby Lobby : Home Page. Search for playing card boxes unfinished. That is the size for making a razor box. There are other sources for these boxes. Good luck. They are a good deal. Some of them have a sliding lid. Mine is hinged.

I'm still trying to figure out how/where you drilled the holes for the partitions

Cool Razor Partition Slots

Looking down into the box lay the thickest razor spine-down and mark where a partition should be. Mark it at either end of the box .On the top edge of the box at the mark carefully drill a verticle hole the same diameter as the thickness of the partition material down to the bottom of the box. Locate the hole as close as possible to the inside wall of the box. Leave just minimum material at the hole bore to this inside surface (this keeps the bit from wandering). There will be two holes drilled for each partition. Cut away the web left at the edge of the hole. This will make a neat rounded slot to hold the partition in place. Repeat the process using your widest razor for spacing for the next partition (unless you want a specific razor arrangement according to razor). My razors are of different thicknesses, thus I use the thickest one (3-pin Grah&Plumacher) for spacing. That way partitions will be ready for any sized razor. There are probably other ways to make the slots. A tiny gouge chisel could be used to score the marks. Maybe a broken hacksaw blade short-stroke job might work. The box is made of cheap gummy wood. It cuts and drills easily. I am getting a camera. . Bear with me, photos are on the way. Another hobby...? Thanks for the patience, Robert
