Default Ivory scales

Not sure if this has been posted before but just wanted to give you craftsmen a heads up. Ebay will no longer be allowing the sale of items containing ivory or ivory materials starting Jan 1st." eBay will continue to allow antiques that contain only small amounts of ivory on the site, specifying that only items made before 1900 will qualify."

So I guess that means the price of mammoth ivory will skyrocket because less people will be able to readily sell it. What do you guys think on this? The way it reads to me you will not be able to sell a razor with mammoth ivory scales unless it was made prior to 1900.. but then again i guess the scales were just recently made.. confusing.

I think mammoth ivory comes under different category since it comes from a legit source, rather than from poaching, like elephant ivory.

After looking at ebay policy they are banning mammoth ivory as well if you do a search on ebay you will see most people are dumping their supply "PRE BAN SALE"

they have auctions for items that they dont even possess yet and have comments like "will ship after 15 Jan 09"

EDIT:

Here is ebays policy off the ebay website:
Ivory: Because many of the species from which ivory is harvested are currently endangered or protected, the sale of ivory is prohibited on all eBay sites. No ivory in any form may be listed, including prehistoric ivory, carved and uncarved ivory, antique ivory, jewelry, figurines, canes and statues.
The sale of ivory items is regulated and, in many cases, prohibited by a complex set of domestic and international regulations, laws, and treaties. Several federal and state laws in the U.S. prohibit or restrict the sale, possession, import, and export of ivory or items made with ivory, including:
Endangered Species Act: 16 USC 1531-1544 - Generally prohibits the import, export, possession, and sale of species listed as endangered or threatened in interstate or foreign commerce. Includes statutory implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES).
African Elephant Conservation Act: 16 USC 4201-4244 - Generally restricts the import and export of African Elephant ivory.
The Lacey Act: 16 USC 3371-3378 - Generally prohibits the import, export, transport, sale or purchase of fish or wildlife taken or possessed in violation of State, Federal, Indian Tribal or foreign wildlife law.
Many states in the U.S. also have laws covering the trade of ivory products, so sellers should check those statutes as well. For example, the California Penal Code contains sections covering the sale of ivory products in California.
Several international organizations also provide information about the trade of ivory products that may be helpful, such as the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and their About Me page, and the World Wildlife Fund(WWF).
Exceptions: While most ivory products are prohibited, eBay allows items created before 1900 that contain a trace amount (less than 5%) of actual ivory. Examples may include antique furniture or musical instruments with ivory inlay. To list these items, the seller must include a picture of the actual item and a clear and prominent disclaimer that specifically states that the item was created prior to 1900.

Good luck finding 6" x 1 1/2" slabs. Most are for knife scales and are mostly in the 3" - 5" range.

If you know a place please let me know.
