FINE CLASSIC SHAVING SOAP HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY DISCONTINUED.
Their statement is as follows....
When first formulating a shaving soap for the Fine brand, I set out with the singular purpose of matching the legendary lathering performance of Tabac. After unsuccessful attempts to work with just about every large soap producer in the US, I eventually expanded my search to Europe, where, to my surprise, I found I could actually procure the same soap base used by Tabac! Not long after, Fine Classic Shaving soap was born.
Today, it's my sad duty to report that the corporate owners of the proud, century-old factory that produced our soap base recently saw fit to permanently close the facility and recycle their machinery for scrap. The obvious result of this circumstance is that Fine Classic Shaving Soap can no longer be produced and must be discontinued.
Thankfully, this news did not come as a complete surprise, so I do expect to have a rather incredible replacement soap available around year-end. But in the meantime, the remaining stock of Fine Classic Shaving Soap is available only while supplies last.
Multiple fragrances are already sold out, so don't miss this last opportunity to add a classic to your shave den!

I sent an e-mail to Maurer and Wirtz yesterday asking about Tabac. The soap is not mentioned the company website, but the dedicated Tabac website still describes it.

I shan't run out of it, as I bought a little stock some years back (~50 pucks).

I had been looking for Fine Green Vetiver soap recently and it was out of stock. I wonder if the factory closure is why. Something curious about the Fine and Tabac connection is the former is made in the Netherlands and the latter is made in Germany.

If anyone is in search of Fine Classic soap, you should hurry to QED shaving, located in Rhode Island, unless I'm mistaken. The proprietor is Charles, and he appears to have several fragrances still in stock, except Snake Bite. It's a safe bet he'll probably find himself out of stock a few moments after this is posted.

I know this as I was the lucky guy who managed to score the last 2 pucks of Snake Bite a couple of days ago. ;)

First we lost Sir Irisch Moos shave soap when M&W discontinued it... Harder to find than hens teeth. I'm not ready for Tabac to go away...

I guess its a good thing that Tabac also bought their base from another place too.. Tabac gets their base from a different factory so I dont see them stopping their soap although I could always be wrong .. It was just that Fine only had a deal with the one factory that shut down and not the other one too..

was a great combo of 'american old barbershop' smell and the hard milled and tallwo based tabac construction, hopefully the new version is great too

Maurer and Wirtz never did reply to me, and apparently the real Tabac soap is no more. The new version has no tallow and no coconut oil. It's a laurate for goodness' sake! An effin' detergent. How the mighty are fallen.

I picked up a bottle of the Fine Green Vetiver aftershave and a bowl of Tabac shave soap today. Apparently both have been discontinued.
