Fishing stories

The pub is the best place for fishing stories. So Here we go. I fish for crappie (a very popular fish here in TN) on the Kentucky lake . I fish with a fly rod and fly reel with mono. line and jigs. So here I am jigging my little heart out and a fish of about 1 1/2 lb bit and I'm trying to land or get it to the boat so I can net it when what should happen . The reel hit the bottom of my boat. Now the fish is still on the line I'm trying figure out what happened and land this fish. My fishing buddy (the wife) is laughing here head off. She laughed so hard she almost lost her breath. I ended up landing the fish by hand .holding the rod in one hand and bringing in the line with the other. So for those out there that need just a little hummer tonight try to visualize what I've just tried to explain and remember i'm trying to control the boat with a foot control trolling motor in about a 5 to 7 mile an hour wind. I've sent the reel to Pflueger to see if they will repair and if so what the cost will be. I have many other reels so I'm still fishing just thought I would share.

I ran across this photo and thought I would add it to the fishing post I started. My wife took this photo of me and my fishing buddy. I found her at work in the winter time when she was about the size of a coffee cup . I worked at a recycling center ( scrap yard we shredded cars and steel of all kinds.) I alway wore denium shirts so I put her inside my shirt for about 1/2 a day or until I got off work then brought her home . the wife loved her and so did i . She loved to go fishing on the TN river. Now this photo was taken many years ago and penny is gone now and i'm a little (ok a lot) older now. Oh she's wearing a life preserver because all she could do is dog paddle.

I sent the reel to pflueger co. and haven't heard a word from them. I really didn't think I would.

Crappie, yes, fished them in Georgia. Very Nice fighting fish for their size If I remember correctly! Nice
pictures and nice fishing buddy story:). I admire the multitasking...I think you must be modest...as you are driving a boat, foot pedalling a trolling motor, holding a dog lead...and also, holding and smoking a cigarette...all at the same time:/ . I would not be surprised if you also were nursing a cup of coffee somewhere not seen in that picture.

Again, nice story, Nice pictures.

Do hope the reel works out.

That photo was taken when I was running trotlines in the TN. river. I would set 10-12 lines with 50 to 60 hooks each. we usually ended up with a few hundred LBS of cat fish before they were dressed. I said a few but most of the time it was between 150 and 200. We put dressed fish in our freezer and mom and dads and a few other folks. We did this for fun. Now crappie stayed at home. we didn't give too many of them away.

Also, thoughtful and generous of you, I think.
I enjoy fishing and it doesn't take long for me to clean fish and I do like fish almost any way it's fixed. I have even tried tuna raw with wasabi and soy Sause. When I was young (a teen ager) I fished some for catfish by hand. Now that's a trip.

Nice.
I can relate. Used to fish every weekend with my Dad. Good memories and laughs. Lots of catfish as well. Never tried tuna raw, but imagine it very good. Catching catfish by hand...aways need to make sure it is not water moccasin before you squeeze down on it when comng up uunder them (in Georgia).. different feel...just gently let go and gently move hand back the way it came:/

Also, fishing with green horse nuts .. an old America Indian trickmy Dad learned from hunting with his Indian friends.. ...put nuts in a gunny sack, bash against rocks first, then drop in stream with an anchor point, emits toxin, fish float to the top, have a net down stream 100 yards, pick out the keepers, let the rest go...they regain bladder control, and live to get bigger:) perhaps catch them next year:)
