Hi everyone,
I have been DE wet shaving for about a year now. Prior to that I’ve used Schlick/Gillette/Store cartridge systems almost exclusively.

I got a feather SS clone a month ago to get a feel of straight shaving and absolutely loved it !!

Pulled the trigger on vintage “H. Boker” on the well known auction site. Looking forward to receiving it out this weekend.

I would like to have it honed professionally (seller said it’s shave ready, but …). Any recommendations for a good honing service in the NYC metropolitan area would be very appreciated!

🙏

I'm not looking at you !
There are a number of folks on the site they may be able to help. You are right not to expect a blade to be 'shave ready'. However we all have been surprised to find some of them to be ready. That said, when you get it , try it before you send it off. Might be lucky. Boker has a good reputation for over a 100 years. There are so many good blade makers so be careful not to shun some of the more obscure makers. I prefer Sheffield blades and most of mine are pre 1900 and still deliver great performance. I have some custom blades and some older Japanese blades. They are all excellent shavers. There are so many different blade configurations and they all shave differently some better than others. Wedges, half hollow, full hollow all have their benefits or feel that delivers to an individual's preference.
If you've been wet shaving for a year, you know how important prep is before the shave. Make sure you do a good prep to give any blade a fair chance. Experiment and enjoy the ride.

Maybe a little more than you asked for......
