    Interesting Article

I dont know what to say. Good read. What a deep dive into a fairly simple process. Always interesting to read up on different or old points of view. I don't know reading this before I learned to hone would have changed anything. It does make a point I think is pretty relevant. Always , always...

A different USMC Razor not Clauss

Intresting post. My only experience with military themed razors is ' John Heister Made for the Army' Thats a 19th century Sheffield Blade. I haven't seen Trusteel or USMC blade. Keep us posted.

    Purpose of Stropping

I have twenty plus razors in the drawer. The next time one starts to drag a bit, I'll give the linen strop a go and see if it makes a difference. Although with that many in rotation, it might be a while before I get back to you on this one! Until that happens, I'll go with your take on it.

    Purpose of Stropping

Without scientific backup, I'm thinking the purpose of the strop is to remove to minor oxidation on the edge that occurs between uses. I never did understand the purpose of the linen strop. Any ideas on this? I've never used a linen strop and my razors shave pretty good.

    Strop Edges

You can refresh the strop with sanding with the appropriate grit. No more than absolutely necessary. Spots especially grease type spots are difficult to remove. However, I'm using the same horsehide strop for two decades. I sanded the blemishes away and use a bit of mineral oil now and then to...

    Remedial Question about Microchipping

Just for what its worth, when I refresh an edge, I'll take it back to an 8k and make enough passes that it has a nice clean edge. Then coticule, JNAT, pasted strop and back in the drawer.

    New Shaving Wisdom

I'm still working on a soap I started last February I have a 1/3 left. Aftershave (clubman) and Witch Hazel well over a year.

Lynn I started this Str8 adventure 20 years ago. I bought a number of blades and used your advice on sharpening them and developed my own technique. I now have about twenty-five old blades and a few customs. I learned a lot here and shared a lot here. My question is, are we, the folks that try...

    Been gone awhile.

Welcome back. I really love to see the amazing work some folks do on the old blades that make them sparkle. I'm on the side that thinks a clean, sharp, and historically correct blade is more in the realm I want to be. None of my old blades (125-200 years old) are perfect. But they are all...

    New Shaving Wisdom

Thanks for sharing. It must be refreshing to listen to all the sage advice from people who are thinking about str8 razor shaving. I couldn't resist I took a peak at Reddit. Don't think I'd be looking to that crowd for advice.

    New Shaving Wisdom

Thank you. It really is something you do or not do. I hone my own razors, but I also have a couple of $100 bucks in hones. I spent the money because not only did I need my razors sharpened, I wanted to learn how so I could be self sufficient. I enjoy taking a not ready to shave blade and turn...

    What am I doing wrong?

IMHO. If it shaves great. Just go with it and don't over think it. I did use circles on a 1K in the past to make aggressive changes. Not sure I recommend taking a blade that shaves very good and doing much else to it. Is it not the goal to get a good shave? Pretty edges probably second on the...

    New Shaving Wisdom

I still search out the same soaps. Witch hazel, pretty easy to find, Bay rum not difficult either. My razors will last at least another 100 years well past my use. The beauty of all this is I can buy some really good bourbon with the money I'm not spending on the cartridge BS they're selling now.

    What am I doing wrong?

My first take on it. The two sides were not equally beveled the same to start with. Whenever I have this kind of discrepancy, I'll go back to the 1K and set the bevel the same on both sides (microscope is handy here) and then go through the progression from 1K, 4K, 8K, coticule and I have a JNAT...

    Pyramid Honing

Hi Lynn, Followed your business and advice for years. Honing was always a learining adventure for me. I started with Norton's and ended up with Shaptons and JNats. I never really understood the pyramid honing. Why go finer then coarser back to finer? That said it may be more the person than the...

    List of sharpest DE blades

Put Feathers Hi-Stainless at the top of your list. Sharp and long lasting. I'm sure there are others, but when I travel a Merkur Slant and Feathers blades are a good substitue for my str8s.

    I remember Straight Razor Designs

Yes they were. I really enjoyed the information and products you and Don provided. No to mention the customs I bought with you folks only to pass them on. Some I regret. Well Done Lynn.
