SRP SOTD August 1 - August 31 , 2023

Well alright. Everybody,

So here we are again with Another New SOTD Month.

We will continue with doing a Monthly thread instead of a weekly one...

Here are some more fun facts / Interesting holiday's we have this Month....

We start the Month on August 1st with....

I'm not really sure what or who is behind this razor it's a GYOKUHAI "jade cup". What I can tell you it is , it's like a lightsaber.

This was the razor that got me into Japanese straights , and I gotta say Its one of the finest shavers I own. Tokyo riki flash, paa phantom aerolite with ap shave co independent "sovereign" knot. M&M tobac fanaile soap & aftershaveCompress_20230814_224539_9543.jpg

I have not heard of or tried Japanese straights other than kamisori before. What makes them different ?? What makes them better for you personally ? .. Sorry for all the questions.. I'm still discovering new stuff...

For me I have a coarse and heavy beard , the japanese razors just take the kind of edge I need to literally melt away the steel wool on my face. To answer your question I think it all comes down to just the shear quality of the metal and the grinds , their grinds tend to be heavier a full hollow is almost like a quarter hollow. Diving into the metal some are of swedish origen while other are made of a domestic yasuki steel , yasuki steel is the mass produced version of tamahagne and yield superb and extremely sharp edges. Think like a lightsaber sharp . The only think I've found that rivals a jap razor is a USA made ny razor ie cattaraugus, robeson that's been put through a shapton glass progression to 30k

A fine Thursday night shave with this gorgeous henkotsu kamisori. I was very impressed with this razor it was nos and damn near shave ready out of the package , a few laps on the ole shell got her tuned up in no time. The yaqui goblin massaged the ever so wonderful moon soaps havana lather onto my face. Compress_20230824_230538_8580.jpg

It's a very summertime tobacco soap. Alot of bergamot ,teak , and aged tobacco. It lathers quick and is very slick , if I had to knock it for anything it lacks in cushion otherwise I've found it to be a awesome soap. Especially for 5 oz . Vs . 4
