Different razors different shaves

I've had many different brands and styles of razors and they all shaved good but different. They honed a little different and when it came to shaving they had there on little way of taking off the whiskers. I've had some that wanted that 10 to 15 degree angle and then some that wanted to be almost laid down on the face. The Sheffield's gave a more softer shave. almost cushioned shave where the Solingen blades if you didn't do your job right would be harsh and rough but if everything was as it should be the Solingen would be extra smooth and very close. I keep looking for nice little Dovo on the bay. I've never tried one of them so I'm interested. What do ya'll think folks. Inquiring minds would like to know.

Well, I've only got two razors. One is a brand new 5/8, round point Dovo which I bought online from Dovo USA before I realized that you could buy a good razor for a lot less. The other one is the J.A. Henckels 84 shoulder-less that I bought from you. Also, I've only been using a straight razor for about 3 weeks, so my opinion is based on my limited experience. I began to swap days with both razors, and the first thing that I noticed was exactly what you're talking about; different razors, different shaves. It took a couple of shaves before I got used to the Henckel, but after I did, I got a very close and smooth shave. I took it to the finishing stone for a few laps, and it has been performing beautifully. I'd been shaving with the Dovo every day for about a week and a half. It was my very first experience with a straight razor and I made a few mistakes but, again, I got used to it and get wonderful shaves. I may take it for a few laps on the stone and see what happens. The Dovo has that singing blade which is kind of flexible. I have to be more careful with it, and the sound is kind of intimidating. The bottom line is that I like both razors, they're just different. Since I've gone to straight razors, I have not used any other blades, and I love it. Shaving used to be a necessary task, but I now look forward to my daily shave.

I’m sorry to hear that you had to take the henckel to the stone. I shave tested before sending it an on me it did well. My razors usually last quite some time before needing anything but stropping But am glad you like it

Oh and I don't know if I told you or not but when I hone I use 3M no. 88 tape on the spine. That will make a difference when honing and refreshing. It want make any difference when stropping. I don't use it when stropping. Take care and happy shaving.
