I was an active member back around 2010 & at that time the forum was run by a gentleman that also had an online store with the same name as the forum but I can’t find it? Help please! Thanks.

That would be me. How can I help you?
@Lynn I am sorry that I didn't contact you before you retired from selling shaving gear.

My strop got damaged a few years ago so I switched to a disposable blade straight razor (only times I have cut myself was with a new blade in this thing). I used it for a couple of years and my hand got a little unsteady so I switched to a safety razor.

My hand seems to have improved to the point I wish to go back to a straight razor, but a real one this time. I had been alternating between two razors I bought at an antique store nearly 20 years ago. After this amount of time without use I will need to replace them with a new razor (tarninsh, corrosion on the edge, etc.). I seem to do better with my rounded point than my square point (square tip has on occasion got me).

I also want to replace my brush. My wife bought it for me as a birthday gift over 25 years ago and I have continued to wet shave even after I switched to a "safety" razor. It was a Col. Conk badger hair. I'd like to go with badger again.

So, I need advise on a strop. Should I go Russian leather, Latigo (sp), or something else. I have a very heavy beard so I've always stropped daily, and sometimes before and after each shave. I would also like to replace both my razor and brush. Any recommendations on a good, reasonably priced option for each?

I'm 59 so I want to get something that will last the rest of my life, or until it is no longer safe for me to use a straight. However, I need to keep my budget down.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom, AKA Minnies mate

I'm not looking at you !
Hi,
I found an vintage Illinois horsehide strop on ebay at a reasonable price. I've been using it for ten plus years. No magic just find one in good shape. Additionally, Tony Miller makes pretty nice strops.
