Being in a scaling mood, I just bought a Grah & Plühmacher Solingen-Weyer, Gotta7/8, 1/1 full hollow ground, spanish point, c-steel.
Ante WW II stock.
I'm yearning to give this steel a coat with horn or bone. Or wood.

And this one, a Dreidecker, Gebr. Nägele Solingen-Ohligs 6/8, c-steel, made before second world war

Were your wife to permit it, you could offer a commercial re-scaling service with every expectation of making a profit!

drmoss, before I retired as a lawyer (civil law notary), I made a profit with being very concentrated on (legal) details. Such a person bears the Dutch title: "antf*cker". So (re)scaling and making profit won't work. But I was very much amused reading your line because my wife proposed the same a plus minus decade ago(y)

The only Dutch I know comes from a few immigrants to Canada who were quite open about their famously stubborn character and also from reading some old and no longer acceptable stories about south Africa by John Buchan. "Antf*cker" sounds very intriguing. Are we talking about "mierenneuker"?

I'm glad I helped. Even if you are laughing at me. It matters not: we all need to laugh.

I once - back in the UK - worked with a fellow obstetrician (I was an SHO, or resident, and not bound for obstetrics as a career) - an Iraqi - whose first name was "Hik" and we laughed endlessly when he told us how it translated. I don't know what became of him when he was, as they all were, called back to Iraq. But I did enjoy driving his Porsche when he let me have a go. I still remember him strolling down the hospital corridors singing his version of Pink Floyd "I don't need no lubrication..."

SWMBO is always telling me I should sell the stuff I make as a hobby.

My issue with this; I do it as a hobby and enjoy it. If I had to do it to sell, it would then be a Job. This appears to be a conflict of interest in my mind.

Gentlemen, the scaling with camel bone of the Manhattan is complete. At least for the time being, because I have to take into account your criticisms, whether constructive or not.
I gave the basic scale a belly. And hollowed out the top of it to get more curve and elegance. I always automatically fall back on my frequently used model and way of working. Now a little more extreme.
My grinder is completely destroyed so what I wanted, thinning out the scales didn't work out. So they are quite bulky.
As usual, I don't do peening, but use a steel/brass miniature bold/nut connection on the pivot side. The wedge side is glued.

I'd rather have mounted a aluminum wedge. But grinder went broke. And making a metal wedge with a Dremel won't work.

If a majority of you would choose for a some more conventional Thiers Issard look alike I could apply some grinding. See pic and the pencil lines.Man 12.jpg

Good show Frank. But I'm waiting for the the killers I invited. I seek for making it better, No compliments but the lashes. I'm going forward with a Koraat and an old Flic and a pre WW II 7/8th Luckhaus & Günther Spanish point.
With bone. :(

I'd be proud of such a razor. I would choose an old-fashioned 'Bullseye' rivet and washer, but the razor is gorgeous even as it is.

Following drmoss' idea of using old-fashioned Bullseyes and rivets next time instead of just one "naked" steel bold and nut on the pivot, I've "staged" bullseyes on the Manhattan's current scales. What do you think? Is this seen as an "aesthetic step forward "? Or worth mounting scales this way every now and then esp. when dealing with the Wade&Butcher types? Or with dark or blonde horn scales?
Please see image for impression. Opinion please.
